Alberto Gonzales Resignation Contest: Free Ice Cream

True Majority, a group begun by Ben and Jerry's ice cream, is offering a free year's worth of ice cream to the reader who accurately predicts the date and time Alberto Gonzales will step down as Attorney General.

Gonzales is now in DC, having canceled a family vacation, to be prepped for his testimony,before a Senate panel on April 17.

    States Attorneys was entirely w/i the purview of the executive branch, all the Attorney General needs to do at this point is tell the truth, assuming he's under oath to do so.

    If he is consistent with his prior statements, he will look bad if all he knows is what he knew then.  Preparation may make him look better.  But, I wonder whether his situation is one where the less he knows, the better.

    eorrect?  He may "look bad," if his sworn testimony varies significantly from his prior, unsworn statements.  But, I think he can ride that out, especially since W is afraid to ask him to step down apparently.

    I thought he would have resigned last month during all the controversy but since he hasn't stepped down yet, I don't think he'll leave anytime soon.  If something bad happens during the testimony (e.g. he lies to Congress again) then he could go, but I don't think it's likely.
