The Walter Reed Hearings

Crooks and Liars is all over the Walter Reed hearings today, with some video.

Think Progress notes Lt. Gen. Kevin C. Kiley has been accused over an abuse cover-up before -- with respect to the detainees. It notes, "Despite these inexcusable cover-ups, Kiley continues to serve as the Army’s surgeon general."

Sounds like it's time for Kiley to go.

You can watch the hearings at C-Span here.

and especially liked the part where Rep. Bailey (Iowa-01) went after Kiley's "it was never expected/we were ignorant/the science wasn't there" excuse for not dealing with soldiers suffering from PTSD and/or traumatic brain injury.

Apparently, Bailey has had entirely too much exposure to the reality-based community to be a Rethug.  Bailey's response to the three-star Kiley was "That's just hogwash.  My partners and I have been representing many clients with traumatic brain injuries and PTSD for over 23 years, and for you to say...."

It went even further downhill for Kiley from there.

Frankly, if any lieutenant would have tried the line of answering Kiley did, that lieutenant would have been eaten alive by his/her company commander.  So, Kiley gets absolutely no sympathy and even less slack from me.  He should be glad I'm not in Congress - he'd be getting no retirement if it were up to me.

Actually, I think that was Bruce Braley, (none / 0) (#2)

freshman congressman from Iowa and a very fine plaintiffs' attorney.  I attended a seminar he conducted with respect to medical malpractice issues a few years ago, and he's a smart, personable guy.  He also was very active on the AAJ's (formerly ATLA) medical malpractice listserv before he ran for Congress, and his participation was always intelligent, informed and thoughtful.  He'll know the medical and administrative issues better than a lot of folks would.

I was trying to get the name from his nameplate, and my streaming feed blurring made it look like "Bailey".  He was quite sharp, and questioned sharply, too....

It's obvious (to me) he's a plaintiff's attorney.  He actually seemed to give a sh*t about the soldiers.  Unlike the generals.

well, then, can he be impeached or removed, or do we have to put the Secretary of Defense before the committee, make him answer questions about his subordinates, and threaten to impeach or remove him if persons such as Kiley are left in place to continue such misconduct?

If the investigators find that the VA system has been troubled and has been providing substandard card in the Clinton years as well does that mean that Hillary, as copresident, will stand up and take some of the responsibility  :)
