Senate Passes Funding Bill With Withdrawal Date

The Senate passed its Iraq funding bill today.

The 51-47 vote fell mostly along party lines, with two Republicans -- Sens. Chuck Hagel (Neb.) and Gordon Smith (Ore.) -- joining Democrats in support of the package, which would fund U.S. military activity in Iraq and Afghanistan. But Democrats also attached language that would start troop withdrawals within 120 days of passage, with a March 31, 2008, goal for completing combat operations in Iraq. Some troops could remain in Iraq after that deadline in order to conduct counterterrorism training and security operations.

What's next? The House and the Senate have to come to an agreement about the date for requiring troops to pull out. Once the House and Senate agree on a version, it goes to President Bush, who has threatened to veto the bill.

Is there no one President Bush is accountable to?

You ask: "Is there no one President Bush is accountable to?"

I'll ask you:  Read the Constitution much?  The veto is one of the President's power; deal with it.

You'd really have to wonder about the man's sanity, and removing him from any position where he is dangerous to himself and others is probably a good idea.

...but the use of "neener-neener" as an argument ("deal with it") lost it's bite a few years ago and President 30% isn't likely to restore its power.

smacks down Congressional nonsense.  He seems anything but. Winning Congress doesn't mean you have won the Presidency, all of your frustrations aside.

Accountable to people who make obscenely large amounts of money from the things he does.

I have a feeling he won't veto. There are people expecting their money.

Waddaya think? Would you call that going all in?

Even if that was non-binding, if Bush signs it, I will be shocked (but not awed).
