My nemesis (not really) Matt Stoller says these are the Congresspersons who betrayed Dems on the Iraq withdrawal legislation:

Some of these folks do not care what we think. Some should. All are making a big mistake, policy-wise and politically. But because the Republicans will provide no more than 8 to 10 votes for this Dem legislation, this bill can go down to defeat and should. Who can be those heroes?

I'd be interested in seeing what Sestak has to say about his position -- from all reports he's someone whose judgement I would probably respect.

As for the actual bill, Stoller says the "saboteurs" plan to vote against the bill in question since it contains "a certain date" (I presume he means "a date certain") for withdrawal. Presumabely you want the Out of Iraq caucus to vote for the bill?

HE does not want to actually withdrawal - which requires defunding.

He is a fraud on this issue.

Sestak has a plan with a withdrawal date.

What's the difference between his plan with a withdrawal date and the plan with a withdrawal date that Stoller says Sestak is voting against? Neither of them contain defunding, isn't that right?

Stoller says Sestak objects to the "date certain" in this plan, but that wouldn't be his objection if he has his own date certain plan. (Unless Stoller is right and it really is an issue of "a certain date" -- Sestak wants to leave on a Wednesday, say, and this plan calls for leaving on Monday after work.)

my understanding is that we need to encourage the out of iraq caucus to hold firm in their opposition and pressure the blue dogs to support ending the war.

There was some big talk around Washington recently about how the democratic congress was going to make it more difficult for Bush/Cheney to launch their war on Iran. Turns out it was just talk.

I'm registered in Ca-29 (Adam Schiff), but I live in Canada. I still vote in this district, but I'm obviously not local. I'm not sure my voice can carry any weight at all. Any ideas? I'm active in Democrats Abroad, but most of our work is GOTV.
