GOP Frontrunner Huckabee Blasts BushCo Foreign Policy

Via MYDD, Mike Huckabee stirs thing up:

American foreign policy needs to change its tone and attitude, open up, and reach out. The Bush administration’s arrogant bunker mentality has been counterproductive at home and abroad.

This patently obvious fact is sure to make the Right Wing heads explode. Let's enjoy the moment of course, but also understand something about the politics - there is some method to Huckabee's madness it seems to me. There are certainly a significant segment of the GOP primary electorate who agrees with what Huckabee wrote. Now they have a viable candidate. As long as there is a multicandidate race, I think this move by Huckabee can make good sense. Even better, if Huckabee captures the nomination, he then is well positioned to not be shackled to Bush.

Mitt Romney is focused on the nomination:

"I can't believe he'd say that. I'm afraid he's running from the wrong party," Romney said to a gathering of about 100 supporters in a restaurant here. "I had to look again -- did this come from Barack Obama or from Hillary Clinton? Did it come from John Edwards? No, it was Governor Huckabee."

Thus, Huckabee serves a purpose for Dems - he pushes Romeny, the likely nominee imo, into Bush's arms. He'll have to carry that into the general election.

thats a smart political move. Maybe he would be a more formidable challenger then we like to think, although some republicans think he is "Huckacide"

If Republicans want to have a chance in the general they have to realize at some point they need to toss Bush under the bus.

Ed Rollins, Huackabee's new campaign top dog, is a smart Reagan type Republican. In Reagan's era, 80's, independents went with the Republican and there is no reason that may not happen again. After all, the two top Democratic contenders are gunning for the independents as well. Hackabee's religious right flank will not suffer from Romney, while Obama's left is increasing daily.

So we have the two parties performing illegal circus acts and I don't foresee any objections to Hackabee's contortions nor to Obama's slight of message.

1992 Presidential Campaign
Rollins was hired in June 1992 as co-manager of Ross Perot's 1992 presidential campaign. He resigned in July and initially suggested that disagreements with other campaign officials about the nature and timing of an advertising campaign led him to quit. Later, he suggested that Perot was not emotionally suited to be President. Perot initially ended his campaign the day after Rollins resigned, only to resume his campaign after the Democratic National Convention.

Rollins worked as the campaign manager for Christine Todd Whitman in her 1993 New Jersey gubernatorial race. After organizing a campaign that led to Whitman's come from behind victory, Rollins claimed to TIME magazine that he secretly paid black ministers and democratic campaign workers in order to suppress voter turnout.

"We went into black churches and we basically said to ministers who had endorsed Florio, 'Do you have a special project?' And they said, 'We've already endorsed Florio.' We said, 'That's fine, don't get up on the Sunday pulpit and preach. We know you've endorsed him, but don't get up there and say it's your moral obligation that you go on Tuesday to vote for Jim Florio.'" After public outcry and calls for an investigation, Rollins partially retracted some of these claims telling People magazine that his comments were "an exaggeration that turned out to be inaccurate."

...is just one of things that worries me about the Huckster.
This statement about Bush makes him almost look like a sensible person, but he seems to have a lot of other ideas that, to me anyway, are just down right crazy.
And the hiring of Rollins certainly wouldn't seem to give him any added creditability.

needs to remember that a primary is about getting nominated. If he wants to stand out as Jimmy Carter of Arkansas, or Hillary Lite, thats fine.

The question is, how many open primary elections are open, anyone can vote, versus closed, where you must be a registered member. (There are other variations.)

Cross over voting has long been a tactic of both parties where one wants to nominate a candidate it feels can not defeat their candidate in the up coming general election.

Ron Paul's thunder. I'm sure he has noticed the fundraising records Paul is setting online..I bet Huck is hoping to hang in there till Paul drops out and bring the Paul crew into his flock.
