FISA and S-CHIP Updates and Actions Alerts

Christy at Firedoglake has all the update details, phone numbers and more on FISA and S-CHIP.

Roll Call (subscriber only) reports the GOP is spoiling for a FISA fight, hoping to distract attention from S-CHIP. The Carpetbagger Report has this quote from the Roll Call article:

Specifically, Republicans are planning to use the kidnapping and subsequent murder of three U.S. soldiers in Iraq earlier this year to put a “human face” on the issue, the House staffer explained. According to this aide, while Democrats’ arguments about privacy may resonate with some voters, Republicans believe using real-world examples of how a weak FISA has put U.S. troops in danger will help galvanize public support for their position.

    They've already started that fight- (5.00 / 0) (#1)

Murdoch put the smiling basic training photo of one of the three GIs captured and killed by Iraqi insurgents on the front of the NYP today, together with a lie-filled article on how FISA was at fault for that kid's death.

Of course, they don't talk about how the delays were really the result of (1) Don't Disturb Gonzo while he's out giving a speech to the party faithful and (2) Paul Clement has left the building.  Where he went, I'd like to know.

Nor, of course, do they mention that the GIs killed were the three (of 7) who didn't notice Iraqis cutting their concertina wire - they were likely sleeping on guard because (a) cutting concertina makes a lot of noise and (b) vehicles just don't carry much more concertina than can make a short circle around the vehicle.  Frankly, it's a little odd to hear the GOP whining about poor GIs getting killed, when these are the same motherf**kers who've been undersupplying the troops since day one and before, and scr*wing them over one way and another every chance they get.

What will Clinton do?? (none / 0) (#3)

Will she fight to defeat FISA or will she fight her way to the floor, to be the first rubberstamp FISA.

With Michael O'Hanlon and Jack Keane advising her, Clinton has become Lieberman-Light.

Any day now, David Broder will declare her "serious."
