In an interview with the Washington Post, President Bush admits for the first time we are not winning the war in Iraq.

So, is he ready to retreat? Of course not. He wants to add more troops to the failed extravaganza.

In another turnaround, Bush said he has ordered Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates to develop a plan to increase the troop strength of the Army and Marine Corps, heeding warnings from the Pentagon and Capitol Hill that multiple deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan are stretching the armed forces toward the breaking point. "

He seems to be willing to consider every option but the right one: Bring the troops home.

    he was equally fascinated by the flameless lanterns recently installed in the WH. he thinks that edison guy is just a real whiz bang!

    it's said, by the self-help types, that the "first step" is recognizing and admitting that you have a problem. i'd like to think this is the prez's "first step". i'd like to think that. history denies me however.

    coupled with a desire to "surge" the number of troops in iraq, by a meaningless #, i take no comfort from mr. bush's apparent epiphany. all this indicates is that i missed out taking his money in college poker games, because he clearly hasn't a clue.

    throwing more good troops into the meatgrinder should constitute malfeasence. were i related to, or one of those soldiers, i'd be calling for mr. bush's head on a platter. as it is, we seem to be stuck with him for 2 more years.

    with any luck, a dem congress can rein him in, and keep future damage to a minimum, until he finally slinks off into the sunset.

    To riff on what Che's Lounge wrote (sarcasm alert).
    Who's fault is it?

    Its your fault. Instead of criticizing Bush, you Lefties should have been cheering him on.  As a result of Bush's brilliant Iraqi strategy the insurgents were just about to surrender until your criticism gave aid and comfort to the enemy, turning the tide of the war in their favor.  

    Its the media's fault.  The role of the press is to propangandize and manufacture consent for administration policies, like what Judith Miller and Fox News did, not do some actual reporting.

    Its the American people's fault.  How dare they think for themselves instead of thinking what the Bush administration wanted them to think.

    Finally, its the Iraqis fault.  Here we invade and occupy their country and instead of thanking us by throwing flowers at our feet they start blowing things up.

    He (Bush) is a total Moron and it appears from the continued lack of engagement of the democratic leadership on the war issue, it's going to be the same old status quo come Jan 2007. No leadership!

    Thanks House and Senate Democrats for your continued silence on Bush's war. The democrats at this point are nothing less than a disgrace. 6 Weeks have past since the election, and these clowns are allowing this bozo to talk about  continuing his bogus war. So... Let the killing of our military and hundred of thousands of people in Iraq continue.

    ...so to blame them for inactivity is utterly premature and just another recitation of republican talking points.

    It's amazing to me how many people want to falsely claim that the dems haven't been able to do this or that when they were elected in November, for god's sakes, when the reality is as plain as could be.

    Wait until they actually take charge.

    That cowboy on capital hill is the real lone ranger moron he is even more of a horse's a#$ than I thought.I would think he got the message what he is telling people by these actions are ,I know the will of the people but I think their will is wrong so seeings how I am the lone ranger moron I will save them from themselves and kill more of their family and friends.I guess the only good thing about this is he is killing his party as well so there is one plus in this mass of negatives.

    He might have admitted that Iraq is a bad situation and winning isn't happening, but he wants to keep shoveling American lives, and money into this pet sinkhole of his, instead of bringing our boys and girls home.

    Do you think someone should point out to him that there are still homeless Katrina families that all that money could be better spent on?

    I predict the Democrats will fork over the money, every bloody penny of it. They'll justify it by saying that it's to prevent the civil war (that's already happening) or some such nonsense.

    Reid is going to allow Bush to "surge" for a couple of months. Yeah like being pregnant for a couple of months.

    To the Dems to be against the war is to be labeled as anti-Israel. So they will do nothing to stop the ever increasing blood bath. Wasn't it a dem idea to increase the number of troops?

    doing the right thing doesn't allow the leeches to raid the treasury, so that's not an option.

    Bush has done, and will continue to do, what he was re-elected to do....doling out the treasury and maxing out our credit to the tune of billions per month, human life be damned.

    He's not a uniter, he's a war industry subsidizer.

    "reset" is another word for "reboot". It's what you do to your computer when the video game you're playing goes into a loop and the game won't respond to your wishes:

    Yes, the low-wattage light bulb above Incurious George's head has finally flickered on.  He has come to the realization that the war is not going particularly well.  And now the floodgates of comprehension have opened up, leading to all sorts of amazing revelations.  ;-)
