Loretta Nall for Alabama Governor

Libertarian Loretta Nall is running a write-in campaign for Governor of Alabama. She was on Countdown with Keith Olbermann tonight.

Loretta did a great job. Her platform:

  • Legalize marijuana
  • End the Iraq War
  • Don't Comply with the Patriot Act
  • Legalize the state's undocumented immigrants

If she loses the race, she'll run for Congress in 2008.

Loretta is a long-time reader of TalkLeft. We've e-mailed several times over the years. TalkLeft supports Loretta for Governor.

    It really is so simple. Those four points alone would end such monumental grief.

    The cowardly hesitation of most Democrats just sickens me. The party's position seems to be to meet every monstrous right-wing proposal by meeting it halfway. Loretta understands, and I for one would take her candidacy in my own jurisdiction totally seriously.

    I have always thought there were tens of millions of us, maybe hundreds of millions, who would support such clear, uncompromising objectives if only a candidate would enunciate them. I can't think of a single one of my friends who wouldn't express great joy and excitement for Ms. Nail's platform.

    three out of four isn't bad, i guess. of course, not being a citizen of alabama (thank god for small favors!), it doesn't really matter what i think of her or her platform.

    that said, i never let lack of standing get in the way of my opining! lol

    i'm with her on items 1-3, item 4 i have a problem with. here's why:

    i believe by legalizing those who violated our laws to come here, you mock those who were apparently stupid enough to do it the right way.

    further, it provides incentive for others to break the law as well, giving them legitimate reason to assume that, at some point in the future, another politician will absolve them and make them citizens too, without having to go through the regular hassle.

    oh, i like her boobs too!

    i forgot to add:

    item 4 also provides no incentive for mexico, and the latin & south american countries that are the major source of illegal immigrants, to improve their economies and societies. why should they, they would continue to have the united states as an economic pressure relief valve.

    Thanks Jeralyn for the endorsement. That is a very big deal to me.

    I did long profile interviews yesterday with NBC 13 and ABC 3340 here in BHAM yesterday and NBC 13 came and filmed me while doing the Olbermann show.

    Today is another wall to wall media day and tomorrow I am speaking at the University of Alabama. If you are in or around Tuscaloosa, AL tomorrow at 2 pm come out to The Heritage rm 322 and hear me in person.

    What's your stand on universal health care and AFDC? Also, do you support organized trade unions? Organized workers disenfranchize illegal workers.

    Hardy Machia was the Libertarian gubernatorial candidate in Vermont in 2004.

    Pro-marijuana candidate Cris Ericson is running in VT for US Senate and Governor this year as an independent.

    you didn't respond to the issue i raised, regarding the illegal immigrant issue. since you're not the only candidate who has that plank, i'd really like to know your position, with regards to the points i raised. oddly enough, no other candidate has addressed them either.

    well, maybe not so oddly, since it would require a potentially uncomfortable staking out of a fixed position.

    see, that's the difficulty of issues such as this, they're rarely as simple as they seem on the surface. kind of that "iceberg" effect.

    this is analogous to saying you want to reduce/eliminate the budget deficit, but refusing to give a clue as to how you might accomplish that lofty goal.

    in fairness, i realize i'm putting you on the spot. that said, if you're serious about the game, you should have a game plan.

    that when you want a candidate to comment on your suggestions or answer a question you may have that you NOT say stupid sh*t like "I like her boobs, too." It's pretty damned juvenile.

    I saw this segment on KO's show. The woman was succint & articulate, which is probably what threw poor cpinva off, I'd bet.

    She's probably very busy now and we should not necessarily expect her to answer all of our questions at this particular forum.

    it seems loretta's stances on the issues are pretty good...but i dont think she'd be able to make many of the changes she desires. also, i think it'll be tough for her to win with the boobies campaign. though they are nice, the general public will likely see that as sophomoric and it'll be a turn off to them as a letigimate candidate for governer. i'm from Texas, and we have a gubernatorial candidate that has a similar stance on the issues, but he's probably not quite as bright as loretta seems. i think they will suffer the same ill fate in the elections though b/c the ideas of libertarianism are not mainstream. they're not necessarily radical, but several of the changes have never been tried before and since they've never been put to use, i think people are scared of them. the libertarian party should be more concise about how their plans will work...almost like a phd dissertation with studies and graphs and charts and projections, etc. i think that's the only way that libertarian candidates will have any chances in elections in the us on any level.

    i realize that charts, graphs, explanations, etc. can easily go over the heads of most of the general public b/c the issues are so complex. but when you have it drawn out and show that you've really done your homework, people are more likely to trust you. it's like buying a car in a sense. you're not going to buy a car from someone that doesnt know anything about their product. the candidate is the salesman and their stances on the issues is what they're trying to sell (along with themselves). hopefully loretta gives em hell in bama and the rest of the nation catches on in 2008.

    Y'all, its been another busy day. I am going to be on Fox News Big Story Weekend on Sunday at 4 pm central time and in the latter part of next week my campaign ads are going to be featured on the Today Show. I am not sure if I will be on but it seems likely.

    Did more local media and have a whole TV station in Montgomery writing me in. Great segment tonight. 5 callers and they were all positive and voting for me.

    maybe so.

    note, it was ms. nall herself who drew attention to her boobs, in her ads. i was merely playing off of that.
