Late Nite: D Stands for Democracy

It's primary day. In Connecticut, in Colorado and elsewhere. If you're registered to vote, you have the power. Please use it.

We've had high hopes before. Let's hope democracy prevails today. Here's a video I found on a VHS tape stashed in my closet, of the 1993 MTV Inaugural Ball for Bill Clinton and Al Gore. This segment is Don Henley performing Leonard Cohen's "Democracy." Not being a video maestro, it took me almost 6 hours tonight to convert the tape to a format my computer would recognize and then that You Tube would accept. You will likely have to turn your volume up, it's best played loud. I hope you like it. If you do, give it a rating.

Good luck, Ned Lamont. If the voters of Connecticut turn out in force, you should be the state's next Democratic nominee for the United States Senate. And that's quite a feat.

This morning I was at a neighbor's house, and she was looking at Fox. I don't know the program we were watching (I don't have cable tv, so don't know the programs). However, the people on the show were discussing the CT primary. They described Lamont as a 'virulent' anti-war candidate and called Lieberman a 'moderate' candidate. Hmmmm. This i know, at least: the Fox folks were touting the Bush line.

Here's hoping the margin is more than ten. What's the weather in CT like today? So sad that I even ask. C'mon people, get off your butts and vote. Last June it took me less than 15 minutes door to door. That's why it's so astounding to me that ANYONE would have to wait hours to vote. Just insane. I sent Lamont a donation last spring. Money well spent. Who doesn't love a longshot paying off? Good luck Ned.

Tagen Goddard at Political Wire (politicalwire.com) is cautiously optimistic, but holds out the prospect that Lieberman might well win. Firedoglake is also less than sure about today's outcome. It would be hard to imagine a worse blow for the margin of peace and freedom that remains in our country if Lamont does not win.

Great video. Thanks for going through all the trouble to get it to us today!! I hope that Lamont romps today. What a nice start that would be, to take back our country from the extremists. Perfect tape to inspire us on. It gets a 10.

Just called home and I can report at least 2 votes being cast against Lieberman this morning. The polling place was said to be pretty empty, but this was because the town is one of those Connecticut 'burbs that's about 80 percent Republican. I still rue the day in 1988 that I voted against Lowell Weicker and helped put this guy in. Democratic voters of Connecticut, this is your chance to atone for that mistake. Get out and vote!

Well, I can't find it on YouTube to give it a rating. They must not get the clips up on the index right away. Except for the sound being low, it's a great song, and thanks for all your work!
