Dinner With Murray

I had dinner with Murray Waas in DC tonight. While we've talked on the phone a bunch and e-mailed about PlameGate, we had never met in person. He was suffering from a really bad bout of bronchitis, so we just ate at my hotel. Then we walked to the Capitol building where I took some pix on my cell phone, but I haven't figured out how to get them from the phone to the email (or set up email in the phone -- one of those high-tech razors,) so it will be next week before I get them posted and you all can see Murray standing in front of the U.S. Capitol.

    jerayln, if you've not done so before, i would urge you to go to the following, before you head back: 1. lincoln memorial 2. jefferson memorial 3. supreme court building 4. the folger theatre and, if you've got even more time, the masonic temple in alexandria, on duke street. i'd suggest good restaurants, but d.c., not unlike most of the south (and i've been to most of the south) hasn't very many.

    bullhockey the dc area has some fine places to eat. Go up Wisconsin into Bethesda and farther. One of my favorites though is a bit out of the way. Its a portuguese place in Wheaton. I know there are good places in NoVa (I just don't know them) Crystal City has a Morton's that was to die for I know. Hell, take the metro to Wheaton and follow your nose. When you see the chicken place with a line halfway down the block you have found one of the best darn chicken takeout around (I hope you speak spanish). Go a couple of blocks south on university and you come to Max's for Israeli food. (closed saturdays) Indonesian, Korean, Bolivian, Chinese, and many others, all in a small area, all mom and pops, all worth a visit. Oh yeah, the Japan/Korean fusion place too, forgot that one.

    Ah, the U S Capitol. I used to live about 10 blocks east. The good old days. When I could ride my bicycle through the grounds on the way to work. Take a walk around the grounds, push the baby stroller, sit under the large old oaks on a hot summer day, even stand on the grounds without a ticket to watch an innaugeration (even if it was Nixon). Before it became the armed enclave I've seen on my most recent jaunts to D C, that takes the heart and desire out of even trying to spend much time there, looking over my shoulder.
