Charges May Soon Be Filed in Death of Iraqi Civilian

by TChris

A lawyer for a Marine being held in solitary confinement at Camp Pendeton says his client and seven other members of the military could soon be charged with murder, kidnapping and conspiracy. The charges will focus on the death of an Iraqi civilian and an alleged cover-up. The incident is unrelated to the killings in Haditha.

The Iraqi man reportedly was dragged from his home west of Baghdad and shot in April. The Los Angeles Times and NBC News said troops may have planted an AK-47 and shovel near the body to make it appear the man was an insurgent burying a roadside bomb. ...

Separately, another group of five Marines in Kilo Company, including a lieutenant who commanded the platoon, are under investigation for injuring a suspect in their custody, said a defense attorney who has been contacted by the family of one of the Marines.

    What barking dog?

Boy, TL (& the Left) just loves these types of stories! GO get hose nasty, evil Marines!

When the terrorists start wearing uniforms the charges of "killing civilians" will carry more weight. How to you tell a roadside bomber from a civilian?

Here is another alleged massacre and subsequent cover up. If true it calls into question whether or not the practice of assasination civilians is widespread and policy rather than just the work of a few 'bad apples'.
The BBC has uncovered new video evidence that US forces may have been responsible for the deliberate killing of 11 innocent Iraqi civilians. The video appears to challenge the US military's account of events that took place in the town of Ishaqi in March.

Go tell it to the Marines, BB. We didn't arrest them.

    BB:
Boy, TL (& the Left) just loves these types of stories!
So can we infer that you (& the right) prefer to cover up stories that you don't like?

If any of the Marines currently under investigation have committed murder they should be charged, appropriately prosecuted and, if convicted, punished. If any Marines have covered up murders they, too, should be prosecuted. This is not a liberal position nor is it a conservative position. It is the Marine Corps' position and, obviously, it is nothing more and nothing less than an appropriate legal response as well as being everyday common sense. At this point I have neither seen nor heard a single liberal who "loves the stories" of Marines as murder suspects, and comments to that effect on this website are truly bizarre. As a retired Vietnam Marine combat veteran, as a criminal defense lawyer who has tried a vast number of murder cases and as the father of a Marine Corps JAG Captain who's served in Iraq, I am very concerned by the news stories concerning Haditha, but I feel that contentious, inappropriate and belligerent comments, such as have been posted herein by BB and a few others, even if they mean well, aren't helpful and don't promote a rational discussion of this very troubling subject. Terry K, Thanks for the post. We needed it. And another link to THE HUMAN BEHAVIOR EXPERIMENTS, for those who need to be reminded what peer and authoritarian pressure will do to even the best soldier or civilian.

"How to you tell a roadside bomber from a civilian?" Irrelevant. What is the difference between a "roadside bomber" and a civilian who refuses to point out the "bad guy"? Frustrating, isn't it? I suggest you are using the wrong frame of reference. See how far you get by imagining that the US are the invaders and the terrorists. That hypothesis seems to fit the facts of Iraq a lot better than the hypothesis that we "saved Iraqis". In fact, given the facts, the US as saviors doesn't fit what is happening at all. It would take a major flight of fantasy to assert so. It has nothing to do with propaganda or "supporting the troops". The US screwed the pooch and the hammer is about to fall. I hope you are one of the hyper-rich and can buy yourself through the next ten years as Cheetos will become scarce.

Unless they indict George W. Bush and the rest of the Bush administration, I don't want to hear about it.

    I wouldn't hold my breath:
Troops cleared in Ishaqi raid A military investigation into allegations that U.S. troops intentionally killed Iraqi civilians in a March 15 raid in a village north of Baghdad has cleared the troops of misconduct, two defense officials said Friday.
The investigation concluded that the U.S. troops followed normal procedures in raising the level of force as they came under attack upon approaching a building where they believed an al-Qaida terrorist was hiding [...] The Army's Criminal Investigation Division reviewed the results of the investigation and found no reason to probe further, the officials said.
    So who did they kill?
One defense official said the investigation into the circumstances of the Ishaqi attack found that four people in the building were killed by U.S. forces, including two women and a child. The main target of the attack, said by U.S. intelligence to be an al-Qaida figure, ran from the building but was later captured, the official said.
Tho the wrongwingers refuse to say how many innocent deaths are worth an enemy death, I assume this is in their ballpark ... but wait, there's more!
video shot by an AP Television News cameraman at the time and aired on March 15 shows at least five children dead. The video shows at least one adult male and four young children with obvious entry wounds to the head. One child has an obvious entry wound to the side caused by a bullet.
So who ya gonna believe, me or your lying eyes. No wonder they dumped this out with the Friday night trash.

Thank you Aaron. I live with marines from the 3/5 in my complex. I share my beer with them, I welcome them home and dogsit for their spouses. I tell them we back them. They know how I feel about the war and I tell them it's not about them. They are surprisingly supportive. We get along great. BB you are an arrogant ass to decide who supports the marines and who does not. The people who do NOT support our troops are the ones who send them there to do our dirty work. You have a lot of nerve telling american citizens how patriotic they are (or are not). What unbelievable arrogance. That trailer trash like you are allowed to speak at all is a testament to the very principles you deride. You bring the whole discussion down to the level that is far below that of this site. But we have to honor the first amendment, even if it gives individuals like yourself a forum to use to attack the host.

This is not only about a murder. The larger picture is how Bush and his war are ruining our armed forces (and dividing the country) based upon a pack of lies. This is only a symptom of the disease. We need to remove the malignancy in the WH and the Pentagon in order to effect a cure. Prognosis: Poor
