Think Progress quotes GW law prof Jonathan Turley on the nomination of Sam Alito to the Supreme Court. Crooks and Liars has the video:

JONATHAN TURLEY: He’s the top choice for particularly pro-life people. Sam Alito is viewed as someone who is likely to join the hard right in likely narrowing Roe and possibly voting to overturn Roe.

...There will be no one to the right of Sam Alito on this Court. This is a pretty hardcore fellow on abortion issues.

I don't want a career prosecutor like Alito on the Supreme Court. I fear he will be a major proponent of the war on drugs, the death penalty and the war against immigrants, while he will rule to restrict habeas rights and Miranda.

Here's one criminal case that Think Progress found:

ALITO SUPPORTS UNAUTHORIZED STRIP SEARCHES: In Doe v. Groody, Alito agued that police officers had not violated constitutional rights when they strip searched a mother and her ten-year-old daughter while carrying out a search warrant that authorized only the search of a man and his home. [Doe v. Groody, 2004].

    The D's are really boxed in: to f.b. or not to f.b. That is the question! Alito is so confirmable. Have you read Lautenberg's endorsement? Or counted the number of Dem Senators who previously confirmed him (98-0)? His credentials are impeccable, and he's purportedly bright as a whip, and gentle in personality. John Roberts redux, but with lots more previous Senate support. Lindsay Graham has already said he'd nuke a fb, and you can bet he's not the only one in the G14 to feel that way. And Alito's "only" replacing SDO. Wanna risk losing the fb over her replacement, cuz if you lose, then RBG and Stevens can be replaced by anyone Bush chooses. Mind you, if you don't fb, you're essentially acquiescing, which might affect D voter turnout a bit. And of course, you'd have to get used to saying "Justice Alito." Like I say, boxed in. This'll be an interesting one to watch: impulse vs reason, in a group setting.

    Whatever R senator is up for election next year better think long and hard about voting for this guy, he is radioactive.

    Well put Ras, and Kudos to Bush for appointing someone that his base will approve of. I don't care for Alito's jurist mindset but from what i have read about him, it is hard to question his qualifications.

    PIL - You remind me of a cymbal. You should only be sounded once a song. I would not vote for him, but this country deserves him. The dems ran a crappy campaign against a guy that cannot speak in complete sentences, and you want me to get excited about making noise regarding a SC candidate? Do me a favor PILA, spend some energy yanking the dems head out of their arses one by one and select a candidate that reflects the values of their base, kinda like george and his base, and then get back to me.

    All Writs: Whatever R senator is up for election next year better think long and hard about voting for this guy, he is radioactive. I am rolling on the floor laughing. That's the most delusional thing I've read since Al Franken celebrating "Fitznukkah" on the Huffington Post.

    WC-Evidentially Franken's delusion came to pass. Since Fitznukkah is not over yet there still may be seven indictments left. Good luck in '06, the wingnuts are going to need it since the translucent cloak obscuring the misdeeds of the current administration is slowly turning transparent. All should be clear by Nov '06.
