Site Loading Problems

Several people have e-mailed me this week to let me know the site is loading so slowly it's become a source of frustration. If you are having the same problem, please add a comment here. I am going to contact my hosting company to see if there is something they can do, but I'd like to get a handle on the size of the problem. Please be patient.

"If you are having the same problem, please add a comment here." Hmm, yesterday and/or the day before for me. Hard to remember exactly...

occasionally - not enough to be a problem - I've been putting it down to network traffic...

It is slow from time to time. But, so are the sites of Americablog, The Left Coaster and DailyKos. I think it's just traffic. It comes and goes.

Its not just TL, its been many blogs, although TL has been "egregious". Seems like things are back to fairly normal. I attribute the slowdown to right wing dirty tricks, since the blogosphere is obviously a prime target, being the progressive tool it is.

Today I'm not having problems. When I do it is always because of blogads. Yesterday and the day before were really bad, as were Atrios' and Americablog, also due to blogads. John at Americablog temporarily reconfigured his page to take out the blogads link to help speed up the site. I don't think there is anything your host can do since the load problem is from access to a different server.

The net has been slow since Katrina, whether due to traffic or backbone problems, I don't know. The left column loads ok. It seems to be either the center or right column that is slowing things down (although it could be something "below the fold" in the right column).

A little slow lately, but always worth the wait.

Ditto those who have had problems here and elsewhere. Didn't you have a problem with an ad server recently?

Your site often does not load at all -- and I often have to wait for items to come up.

No problems here. The other sites (e.g. AmericaBlog, Eschaton, etc.) were experiencing similar problems because BlogAds was supposedly having DNS problems, thus causing sites to load slower than normal. Might be the case for you as well.

BlogAds has had some problems this week. Americablog had to take the ads down for a while to get the site to load at all. I'm guessing that's where the problem is.

Sunday or Monday could not get to your site. Kept getting "operation timed out" messages. Tried again and again, at various times of day. Just would not let me in.

It's definitely a BlogAds issue. I couldn't get into any site running BlogAds yesterday from my workplace. Every attempt to do so caused my browser to crash. I think the BlogAds issue--which apparently had something to do with a domain name problem on their end--conflicted with whatever firewall protocols my place of employment uses. They corrected that problem yesterday, and it appears that all of my access problems solved (for now). Which means I can go about wasting time at work just like I used to. Whew!

I have noticed a slow loading problem. Sometimes I back up to the previous page in my browser and foward to TL which then loads. It is not a consitent problem though.

Yes, it's been remarkably slow. I had the impression it might be the ads.

Sometimes, when I reload, the site is plastered with wrong ideas.

It's part of the vast right wing conspiracy.. No seriously, sometimes it loads SNAFU'd but a refresh usually fixes it.

Yes, your site has been very, very slow to load for the past 2 to 3 days - usually taking more than 20 seconds to access your home page. Of course, the delay may be due to your well-deserved increase in readership during these very difficult days. Peter Schmidt
