What Exactly Is Karl Rove's Job?

We hear a lot about Karl Rove, but little about his job duties, aside from advancing Bush's agenda and orchestrating Republican election campaigns. The LA Times today provides some illumination:

Rove has duties beyond his official role of working on foreign and domestic policy development. He has the broadest portfolio of any presidential aide in history: He micromanages policy, leads outreach efforts to key GOP constituencies and supervises election strategy down to the precinct level, not only for the president but for congressional candidates as well.

Rove also maintains contacts at leading news organizations and often provides background guidance to top reporters and editors, as he did for Cooper. These contacts are part of Rove's less-discussed role of crafting Bush's image, enforcing the strict Bush code of discipline and jumping hard on perceived opponents of the president.

    I think that's a fair description of Rove's job: He's an enforcer.

For those accustomed to regarding the White House as the Cheney administration, this adds a new wrinkle. We should see it as the Cheney-Rove administration. W is essentially a cutout.

The Chicago LA Times continues to reach deep into the rhetorical bucket: "enforcing the strict Bush code of discipline"!!! Yeah, he has to have his five laps with the mountain bike every day, or he pouts. WHAT a disciplined guy. The strict discipline involve leather? I thought so. Yesterday the CLAT ran the headline: "Grieving Police..." Describe Dysfunctional Family or some such. Grieving police! They shot the hostage. It really takes some nerve to write such things. I thought THIS was risky deployment in the typewriter wars. Little did I suspect that writing for the CLAT could involve such excitement. It used to be just reporting the news. Now it's Rightwing Apologetic, at every turn.
