Bush Iraq Speech Was a Ratings Flop

Crooks and Liars watched Olberman who said the ratings for Bush's Iraq speech were a flop. [link fixed]

Only 23 million saw the show, down from 34.7 million for his Social Security speech. It sure looks like he was preaching to the choir.

The C&L link goes to an article about Lindsay Graham? Link snafu or did I misread the topic?

Hell, the people at the speech didn't even watch it. I can certainly understand why; I find the inside of my eyelids more interesting than that moron, especially if I push on them.

Bush gave a speech? All I remember is someone repeating "911,911,911,911,911,911,911" with no intonation.

Now, this not a random sample of the American public. People who watched the president's speech were more likely to be Republicans. OK?
No, not "OK." You have absolutely no way of knowing that.
Now, 46 percent of those viewers had a very positive reaction to the speech. Now, that is considerably lower than the 67 percent who had a very positive reaction
You find it surprising that 67% had a very positive reaction to a President thanking troops after a very successful battle, and only 46% are very positive about a speech in a continuing war against terrorists two years later? Really reaching for something to criticize, eh?
KING: Summer seems more a time for baseball than big presidential speeches.
Uh Larry, you do remember last August, don't you? Boston? Demo convention????

A hand picked audience again that didn't come through enough on the applause button for the boy president. Bush has a fundamental misundertanding of what he confronts in Iraq that the American people are starting to wake up to. George Bush is a Zero< /a>

I think it was AP that reported the speech only had 17.9 million viewers. I myself stuck a Columbo disc in my machine.(Say, there's one more thing that bothers me about this case).

And if you had watched the speech you would know that the audience was asked not to interrupt with applause because a military audience would have done so to distraction. Now, go find another complaint.

Bad teams get sparse crowds, bad president's get bad ratings. Ergo...

the military weren't told to be apathetic, that is just the rw spin machine cranking up because it was so embarrassing.

Because of the weakness of the applause it was announced that from now on Bush's speeches will be given in front of real trained seals, instead of human substitutes.

And your proof that they were apathetic????? You know, you are slipping today. Stay up late watching the WPT? But nice talking point from the NYT. Do you have to call and tell them you received it? DA - Just as we are what we eat, we are all also what we quote. If not, your immediate forgiveness of George W. Bush's many statements should immediately be posted. Now, I will note: Schnieder had absolutely no way of knowing and his comments represent the type of nonsense I have come to expect. And I used "battle" just so you could raise the issue. Thank you for taking the hook. Bush was thanking the troops for a successful mission. Singular. So stop with the BS, it has proven uneffective. Mission
3 : a body of persons sent to perform a service or carry on an activity:
4 : a specific task with which a person or a group is charged b (1) : a definite military, naval, or aerospace task (2) : a flight operation of an aircraft or spacecraft in the performance of a mission
And yes, you trapped me, I though it was Larry King. Sounded just like the no-content stuff he uses. But, the point remains the same. Which is, it is a useless attack comment that is laughable.

Quite clearly a 'major address' on the Iraq war is going to draw a lot of Dems, but more importantly, millions in military families who do not necessarily support the screwing their family-members are getting. Since the viewership was measured using the usual means, a viewership of ~20 million is RIDICULOUSLY SMALL for a well advertized event. At least 5 million had to be Dems or military families -- that leaves 15 million red meat R Bush-lovers. In a country of 200 million adults -- not so much. Bush: 'TEN PERCENT. It's a mandate.'
