Hillary Book Author Caught in Deceptions on Franken's Show

Media Matters has the transcript of author Ed Klein's appearance on Al Franken's Air America radio show today, during which he disscussed his book, The Truth About Hillary. MM says:

Hosts Al Franken and Katherine Lanpher, and guest Joe Conason confronted author Edward Klein on the many factual errors, distortions, and misleading claims in his attack book on Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY), The Truth About Hillary (Sentinel, 2005). On the June 24 edition of the Al Franken Show on Air America Radio, Klein acknowledged his falsehood in portraying the chronology of the reporting of Clinton's Jewish step-grandfather and her controversial meeting with Suha Arafat, first noted by Media Matters for America. He also admitted that he had never seen Clinton's chief of staff Melanne Verveer (whose name he misspelled in the book), although he described her appearance as "mannish-looking." But he refused to retract other false claims when confronted by Franken, Conason and Lanpher.

Ok, I have to say, that while I have always found Hilary spanking attractive, oddly interesting, and generally about as moral as Nixon on a bad day, I thought the press releases on this book were enough for anyone to avoid it. I saw the author on CNN and thought he was your basic liberal news-weasel. Glad to hear he's been busted. God forbid, though, that we extrapolate his lame-ness to the other media currently bleating about this-that, and the-other. -Cliff

Because Klein is a sleaze bag that makes him a liberal?

Doesn't seem like much of a liberal to me. Consider: a) He lies constantly. b) He hates Democrats. I can think of a few people like that in the White House and they ain't liberal.

No, actually, I don't know if Klein is a "sleaze bag" - but I do know he's a liberal. All you have to do is read his column for a while. I think he decided to take a bite out of hte shark and make some money by pandering to those people "too stupid to vote Democrat" (Al Sharpton). I'm not sure this hurts Hilary. Hey, if she can withstand a publicly cheating husband, Health Care socialization failure, etc, etc then she can ride out this book. -C

Klein doesn't claim to be a liberal:
NRO: You've got good liberal credentials. Is this book the end of that? Klein: I have never had an ideological ax to grind. I’m a registered independent....

No, actually, I don't know if Klein is a "sleaze bag" - but I do know he's a liberal. All you have to do is read his column for a while.
Walter Scott's Personality Parade in Parade Magazine? Maybe you're thinking of Joe Klein, but alas he's not a liberal either.

He's liberal with the facts, that's for sure. Conason ate his lunch. Especially good was when Joe pointed out that Klein's protestations of having 'left out' ellipses would just be more LYING, since he had left out the very words of the late Moynahan that Klein was saying he didn't say. Oops. Yeah, he's liberal. He cares about human rights, except for the people who he does hit pieces on for cash. It turns out that his comment that Hillary's staff leader was a 'mannish' woman was hearsay -- he had never seen her or a photo of her. And then he lied to Joe C. that he had left messages to check with the woman he insulted in print sight-unseen, but she didn't return them. Joe C.: "You are lying. You don't know where she lives, and you never did." And that was clearly the case. Maybe he could clean up after O'Reilly's dog -- with his lying mouth. What a whore.

I wonder if -cliff is confusing Ed Klein with Joe Klein.

Tony - Yep, I think I was. You gotta admit, it's Kline of confusing! -C

What gives with the United States - here we have an right-wing author admiting making utrue statements about a political opponents and being condemned, not for being untruthful, but for being a liberal? Don't you guys see what the rest of the world sees, you are governed by a group that wishes to turn you into a one-party state. Scary!
