Eric Boehlert asks what took so long in bringing the Downing Street Memo to the media's attention?

Why did it take more than a month for the U.S. press to report on the serious revelations in the Downing Street memo?

    Investigative reporting is against corporate policy. Just re-hash the govt. press releases and be home in time for tea.

    It took so long becase it's a non-story, hinging on the deliberate misinterpretation of key phrases, such as "fixed around."

    Ras, seeing right-wingers like you go from shouting G.W.'s victory from the rooftops and heralding the New World Order to quibbling over the semantics of intent and incrimination makes me feel great. The feet of clay are crumbling and the statue of the idol is falling right on top of you.

    Ah, yes, a story about a story about a story about a memo telling a story. First the MSM starts telling non-stories like women who run away from their marriages. And then the MSM and bloggers write stories about how the MSM is ignoring the real stories. Each step we take is another step away from the actual telling of the real stories. I just feel like everyone is falling right into the hands of a Bush administration that relies on diversions and misdirection so that they can fudge the results and interpretation of "scientific" studies and pass faulty legislation based on them, among many other ethically questionable acts, all in relative obscurity. I think asking a question like "Why didn't we hear about this sooner?" defeats its own purpose. I would rather investigative journalists get their act together and find this stuff out and write about it on their own, so we don't have to ask the question in the first place. Which is hard. I know.

    How long before he will do a suicide and maybe a police suicide if you understand my meaning? this guy is going to prison/torture and killing inside one of our jails. Bush must love him now.

    I love going there every once in a while. While looking around I saw the guy, with his kids, and the sign "Google Downing Street Memo". My personal, current, favorite, of all of the photos of signs there currently.

    MSM ignoring news? No.... The DS memo has been ignored because it makes for crummy news footage and might not be that big of a deal as the UK electorate didn't respond by turning out Labor the last go round. Stories that don't exist according to American media: Mugabe's consolidation of power under a facsistic socialist regime... Mass gov't murder in Uzbekastan... Kim Il Jong's prison camp otherwise known as North Korea.... I even saw a story last night on CNN about the '49 Mercury "boat" from Cuba that was accompanied by the news reader saying the it's amazing what people will do to get to the US. No mention that the people on that "boat" were escaping from a totalitarian dictator named Fidel. All in all if one is looking to the MSM for thier news than they are fools. The internet is still the best place to find news and opinion by far.

    jimcee, if you think north korea is simply a "prison camp", and if the right shares this simplistic view, then we should be unleashing another military disaster soon. here's what north korea is: it's a cult. C-U-L-T. and it has been since papa was running the place. which means "regime change" is an entirely different proposition than it would be in, say, IRAQ -- the war that our leaders STILL haven't grasped, instead living in the neo-con fantasies polluting their imaginatively bereft minds. And glad you mentioned Uzbhekistan, where another of our hired dictators is creating the conditions for terrorism we're supposed to be eliminating. Hmm. Mugabe, by the way, got and continues to get a lot of coverage, probably because a huge number of white people owned the farms that were idiotically confiscated. Were it blacks kicking out blacks, nobody would've cared at all. And what do you want to do with Castro and Cuba? Another cult, but with much less dysfunction in the general populace -- it is a highly educated and literate society. Do you think we should unleash a civil war there? Guess what, there'd be no other side large enough to fight. Cuba is as much it's own country, and Cubans feel as much their own people, as any on the globe. Now, they could all be wrong, they might all live in pure denial, but the ironies still abound. A majority of Cubans will embrace socialism and the legacy of the revolution long after Castro is gone, whether we want them to or not, whether we are able to buy up all the beachfront and wave the capitalist flag or not. Ironies abound. I agree the MSM is the last place to get real news these days, but I don't think we'd agree at all on what is or isn't actual news.

    Looks like South America has started it's own little war aginst the multinationals. People are fed up with these thieves.
