Syria Ends Cooperation With U.S. in Terror War

Syria broke off cooperation ties with the U.S. today over the War on Terror.

Imad Moustapha told CNN that Syria's decision came in the wake of recent "unfair and inaccurate" statements by U.S. officials that Damascus was allowing foreign fighters to cross Syria's border to aid in the insurgency in Iraq. "This is actually the state of the affairs. Today, we are not cooperating with the United States," Moustapha told CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

....He added, "We are trying to tell the United States we are willing to engage with you constructively. We want a good relationship with you, but you have to stop this unfair media campaign against Syria, because we think it is unfair and it is unconstructive."

If we can't secure the safety of 12 million people in NJ/NY from sabotage at chlorine plants, what good is it to attack Syria? Why is our safety at home not a priority?

News that North Korea is threatening pre-emptive strikes on U.S. targest if Bush doesn't chill out... And Syria's in the neocon sights... Everyone's safe now...

We're losing friends and toadies pretty quickly now. When a sociopath starts losing members of his peer group, he's going to get angrier as he gets more scared because he's lonelier.

DP - Just when do you think Syria was our friend?

I was thinking more along the lines of toady. And we don't seem to be listening ot our friends very well either.

Well shucks, that's one less country we have to ship people off to be tortured for us.

Oh man... does this mean we can't ship Canadians over there for torture anymore?

'Cause you know all of us Canadians "hate America..."

Bag - No, not all..... et al - Syria has been a back burner problem for years. Now that they are actively supporting terrorists by letting them into Iraq, they have moved to the front. Time for Shock and Awe, the Sequel.

Syria has been "actively supporting terrorists" for the last 30 years at least. What's new?

PPJ..."Shock and Awe?" Is the Administration ever going to tackle the real threats to its security (Iran and North Korea, Saudi Arabia), or is it going to continue the same policy of spending hundreds of billions of dollars knocking over cream-puff regimes who can't fight back? Syria? You're kidding right? Meanwhile, the Soviet Union is reborn, North Korea is readying to test its nukes, and Iran is, well, Iran... Syria? Oy vey...

Considering even Myers stated that to take on a second war right now would cost us a great deal more than Iraq in lives and funding, an invasion of Syria is just delusional. W. will never support a war that might require massive sacrifice on the home front, it might hurt his (already pathetic) poll numbers.

Iraq was a poll-buster for him...Syria would bust HIM in the polls...so yup, no war on the horizon...unless public opinion changes...

Or another attack using "Syrian" pilots (or drivers).

Cheney's now saying that a Syrian official met with an Al-Qaida operative in Hungary before 9/11...and no, it doesn't matter that they bumped in the subway and didn't know who the other was...they MET...

Shock and Awe? Shocking and Awful, more like.

    Shock and Awe= Limbless children

yes, it would be a shame if Syria were pressured to reform. Iran too.

It was necessary to destroy the population of the country, in order to reform it. New phrasing, but it's still the same lousy idea it always was.
