Where is the Civil Liberties Commission?

Among the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission that were included in the terrorism law passed by Congress and signed by the President last December, was one calling for the creation of a civil liberties oversight board to ensure that privacy and civil liberties concerns are taken into account by the Executive branch in enforcing terrorism laws.

So where is it? Has a Chair been nominated yet? Is it adequately funded? Or is the White House stalling?

Former 9/11 Commssion Chair Thomas Kean has complained about the lack of progress in establishing the commmission.

Here's a heads-up. Watch the news this afternoon, as four Senators, including one Republican, will be demanding an explanation.

On September 11, 2001, my reassuring advice to those around me, my family, my neighbors, and friends was to fly the flag, wait for facts and protect civil liberties. Two years later, I took threats against me by my fellow citizens as motivation to get into shape and knock off 50 lbs. Terrorists did not scare me as much as jingoistic nationalists.

Where is it? Over where the US Commission on Civil Rights is, in Bush's 'Stuff I Ignore Because I'm Not a Real President' file, which is, ahem, round. When the USCCR found prima facie racial discrimination in the 2000 election (Black voters 20X more likely to have their votes eliminated than any other racial group, including Cubans), Bush appointee Aschroft just ignored the law that on that finding required him to hold a formal election investigation. USCCR has been dismantled. When the Ohio recount was blocked by Bush campaign chair Blackwell, and affidavits were filed by local election officials that Triad Systems had changed out circuit boards in the waiting tabulators, and supplied FALSE numbers to be reported regardless of what the voting machines said, Bush appointee Gonzales wasn't interested in investigating. They don't investigate felonies any more, unless there is a political payoff in it. When will people stop the pretense? For sure, Bush will not. The Walking Blackeye on America only knows how to lie. He doesn't admit error, and that's because he never makes mistakes, since all of his actions are intentionally WRONG. Name ONE decent or courageous act in his entire life. Alternatively, name one policy that has helped America to be more free. No such animal.

They are having secret meetings in Cheney's suite. There are no minutes available and the exact participants cannot be disclosed.

Hey, Paul, take a deep breath, my friend. Somehow we have to open our hearts to find love for a miserable pos like Dubya.

I have no doubt that Dubya has done some decent things in his life, perhaps even a courageous act or two. A blind groundhog will find an acorn every now and then. As for making America more free--nada. Zilch. But plenty in the reverse.

Hey, Glanton, let me know when you figure out what acorn this blind groundhog president ever found. I want to bask in that moment. I am also waiting for Dubya to review and do that fearless moral inventory where you may have to admit mistakes that are even worse than a few bad appointments. Imagine that.
