Rock the Vote needs your help. They are under siege from a right-wing group due to their strong stand against privitization. They want bloggers to pass this along:
They call themselves Americans for Prosperity. They just sent us a box of t-shirts that mimic our I LOVE SOCIAL SECURITY shirts[ but instead read I Love Hypocrisy]. A flattering imitation. But here's the thing: our t-shirts are UNION MADE IN THE U.S.A. Supporting the American way of life. Their shirts are MADE IN GUATEMALA. Probably in a sweatshop.
Now which group is really americans for prosperity, and which group is really a bunch of hypocrites? Get your I LOVE SOCIAL SECURITY shirts today!
This is pretty cool. The Reading, PA Eagle now publishes its editorials in blog format, complete with commenting ablilty. Today's entry is on the nuclear option compromise. [link via How Appealing.]

NBC aired the two hour farewell Eagles tour filmed in Melbourne, Australia tonight. As many times as I've seen them live, including the farewell tour, I couldn't stop watching. Hotel California still is one of the all time greats.
Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes Benz
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget....Mirrors on the ceiling, pink champagne on ice
We are all just prisoners here, of our own device......'Relax,' said the night man, We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like, but you can never leave!

Update: Philly bloggers, including the Rittenhouse Review, are less than impressed.
My lineup would begin with: Springsteen, Dylan, Mellencamp, Green Day, Tom Petty, Bon Jovi, Don Henley, the Goo Goo Dolls and the Foo Fighters.

LIVE 8 is part of a day of action across the world which kick-starts The Long Walk to Justice that calls on the leaders of the world’s richest countries to act when they meet in Gleneagles on 6th-9th July. On July 2nd in London, Edinburgh, Washington, Berlin, Paris and Rome millions will be coming together to call for complete debt cancellation, more and better aid and trade justice for the world’s poorest people. Do we really need to read the stories of multiple persons whose lives were ruined by cocaine? Spare me the Cocaine Chronicles, featured in the LA Times today. The history of the drug, particularly with respect to smuggling it into the U.S. in the 70's, I still find interesting. If you are going to read a book on cocaine, make it Robert Sabbag's Snowblind.
Note: Title of Post taken from The Eagles, Life in the Fast Lane:
"They knew all the right people, they took all the right pills
They threw outrageous parties, they paid heavenly bills
There were lines on the mirror, lines on her face
She pretended not to notice, she was caught up in the race"

There’s been a change of plans. The August 20 public memorial service for gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson, at which his ashes were to be blasted out of a cannon, has been canceled. There will be a private memorial service instead.
“It got too tricky to morph symposium and ashes, so instead there is just the private service,” [planner Doug] Brinkley said Tuesday.
It’s too bad because legions of Hunter fans would have trekked to Aspen for the event.

Thanks to Ian of Political Teen for putting up the video of today's Connected Coast to Coast segment in which Paul Rieckhoff of Operation Truth and I debate media bias in military reporting. We discussed media coverage in the war zone, Newsweek, the Pat Tillman reporting and a little more. Phil Bronstein guest hosted for Ron Reagan. I agreed with everything he said and much of what Paul said. I don't think Monica was convinced, but she argues really well for her side.

Bruce Springsteen was on CBS Sunday Morning. DemBloggers has the video, including music and interview.
Howard Dean was on Meet the Press today with Tim Russert. Russert brought up a Pew survey allegedly showing that Dean supporters went to church less than other Democrats. Via Suburban Guerilla:
Howard said the methodology was in question, because it was an internet survey. And then he started swinging: “I’m a committed Christian, and I’m not going to have other people tell me how I should or shouldn’t be a Christian. That’s my personal business, and I’m not going to have these Pharisees tell me what to do.” (He also referred to those who were pointing out the mote in his eye instead of taking it out of their own.)
The transcript is here. Crooks and Liars has a video clip. [hat tip Avedon at Atrios.]
Here's the exact exchange:

Playwright Seth Greenland writes over at the Huffington Post [Hat Tip: Daou Report]:
After the Koran-in-the-can story, and Friday’s photos of Saddam kicking back in his underwear, what’s next for the U.S. military? An all-out panty raid?
The whole world’s becoming a frat party and the President of the United States is manning the keg. With his prancing around a destroyer deck like a member of the Village People and his calls of “Bring ‘em on!”, the former cheerleader has certainly shown it’s still all right to have fun!
On a more serious note at the H.P., Stephen Elliott takes on the new Anti-Gang Act.
