Election Day Afternoon Open Thread

Tonight Jeralyn, TChris and I will be live blogging the election results. I will concentrate on the Congressional races and J will concentrate on the Presidential race.

I got an e-mail from a friend that says about Ohio - "Chaos. Every imaginable problem. I'm a supervisor @ statewide call-in center reviewing all complaints from pollwatchers. Its a war. More later." Anyone in Ohio got anything to add on this?

Election Day Site Issues

TalkLeft was difficult to access this morning. A lot of the problems have to do with traffic at third party sites. For example, our "twit this" button caused the page not to load, probably because their site is overloaded.

I've stripped the site of widgets, including TalkLeft's and Headline News widgets. I've also removed the affiliate shopping ads.

Hopefully that will solve the problems. Colin, our webmaster, is keeping an eye on things and will solve problems should any more arise.

We also have a backup site, in case we actually go down. Please bookmark it now. If you forget, it's easy to remember -- TalkLeftDenver - at- blogspot.com.

Saturday Night (Live) Open Thread

Live from New York, Celebrity John McCain hosts Saturday Night Live tonight. This is an open thread to discuss his performance or anything else.

Update(TL): Anita and I loved the intro. It was the most human we've ever seen McCain. Cindy's role was perfect. Palin holding the t-shirt was genius. They were almost likable. Too little, too late though. Thank goodness. Now we're looking forward to the skewering of Olbermann. (We're also on our third biff of the evening.)

Update: Transcript of McCain segment below:

Saturday Evening Open Thread: Owl Farm Blogging

I can't think of a better place to blog the final days of the election than Owl Farm. I just arrived and am waiting for Anita to get here.

On the drive up, I heard both Obama's Pueblo speech and McCain's PA speech. I heard Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney and Joe Biden.

I doubt this election will be close, but still, everyone needs to get out and vote.

This is an open thread, I'll be back later. Here is another photo and larger version of the one above.

Rashid Khalidi? Cool sounding name. Shareem Abdur Rahim? Also a cool sounding name. Mahmoud_Abdul-Rauf? Also cool. And Kareem Abdul Jabbar? Also a cool sounding name. Not to mention Nuri Al Maliki.

What do Republicans have against vowels? Say what you want about George Bush, but he seems to not hold any grudges against people with a lot of vowels in their name.

Leonardo DiCaprio and a slew of the Hollywood celebrity-types who are so irksome to Republicans join with non-celebrity Americans to urge viewers to vote. "5 More Friends" is the second PSA; the first ("5 Friends") is here.

Tuesday Open Thread

Dean Barnett, a conservative blogger, has passed away. Barnett was an antagonist of the left blogs, especially Daily Kos, when I was posting there. On a personal level, it appears he was a very fine man. Our thoughts go out to his family.

Gators up 1421-0, thanks [in part] to 2 blocked punts. Penn State will lose to the Buckeyes today. College football's BCS system is a travesty and will be proven beyond redemption this year. As early as next year, college football will add a +1 game after the BCS bowls.

Also, I understand there is a baseball game tonight in Philadelphia.
