100 Pardons Coming

Only two short days remain until all traces of Donald Trump and his family and entourage will be gone from the White House. What is his game plan for the end of the most mocked and despised administration in history?

Most major news outlets are predicting 100 pardons.

We all expect it to include Rudy Giuliani and Trump's children -- unless Jared and Ivanka are arrogant enough to reject the idea because they are convinced they are not in jeopardy and don't need one.

I expect to see Steve Bannon on the list. If it later turns out that the funding for luring ultra right-wingers to D.C. disguised as Donald Trump supporters to attack the capitol was provided by Bannon, Trump will look like an even bigger as* for pardoning him.

I also think there will be a lot of pardoning of uber-rich folks, or relatives of uber-rich folks. Trump will want to hit them up for money when he's ready to make his comeback.

I don't think Trump is selling pardons, but those close to him sure seem suspect, according to the New York Times.

You can not talk to them.  You can not reason with them.  Yes, they have been lied to but they believe the lies because they want to not because they are fooled.

They can not be brought around by reason.   They are the same people who believed Obama was foreign terrorist in waiting.  (They never really believed that).  They believe Democrats are cannibal pedophiles.  How do you begin a conversation with someone who thinks you are a cannibal pedophile?  Or at the very least you support them politically.

No talking.  No coddling.  No tolerating.  There is only one thing we can do for these people.  Beat them.  Beat them back.  Beat them over and over and over.  Marginalize them and ignore them.

If you didn't say jack about coming together for the past 4 years, it's time you STFU about coming together now.

And McConnell... does Mitch forget he was lock and step with Trump for 3 years and 50 weeks.  Did he forget how he screwed us out of 2 SCOTUS appointments.  How many votes did he block form even coming up, the guy has a lot of blood on his hands.   I would let him know in no uncertain terms that impeaching Trump is a start if he want to get back into good graces.

    if it is not "delivered".
"A president almost never tries to take back a pardon, although an old court case called In Re De Puy describes how President Ulysses Grant successfully cancelled a conditional pardon granted by his predecessor, Andrew Johnson, before it was delivered," Crouch said.

Grant's actions may seem to set a precedent for Biden but the circumstances were complex. A properly delivered pardon, accepted by the recipient, cannot be revoked by a new president.

"More recently, George W. Bush took back a pardon from Isaac Robert Toussie and claimed he did so before it was delivered," Crouch said. "I argued in a journal article that Toussie's pardon was actually complete and couldn't be taken back."

Bush withdrew Toussie's pardon one day after issuing it in a decision that's still controversial. Toussie's father had donated $300,000 to the Republican Party, a fact that emerged only after the pardon was issued and prompted Bush's actions.

"[A]s long as a pardon is delivered, it is recognized as valid," Crouch said.

The article also mentions that a self pardon might be declared invalid regardless of if it was delivered.

has come to be synonymous with zealot, extremist.  When most people think patriot they are probably thinking militia.

Others, like me, think Judy Collins Patriot Games.

    It's perfect.

almost everyone looks better in a mask.  I'm starting to hope they continue being widely used.  Never a bad idea to wear a mask.

And most people just look better.

I also feel sort of incognito when I wear one.

It is my hope that President and Dr. Biden have the Oval Office   re-decorated right away.  The site of so many photos, the optics need to keep pace with the notion of cleansing and refurbishment.  Change the colors, lose Trump's golden curtains, and replace the busts and portraits, including that of Andrew Jackson.

Maybe, piggybacked onto the $500,000 fumigation job underway at the White House.

Also, I hope our new First Lady makes an attempt to restore the Rose Garden to its former beauty. Someone suggested that she requests family members of the former First Ladies select a rose to replace what was torn out by the "classless one."

Thinking Back Four Years Ago... (none / 0) (#64)

...it truly was as bad as we thought it would be, maybe even worse because of January 6th.

The feeling I have today is so much different.  After the 2016 election I went dark in regards to news for about 6 months.  I didn't want to know about anything and I was ticked how the media had given Trump a platform that ultimately lead to his win.

I'm no Joe fan, but damn, life today just seems a little better and very soon, there is going to be a day in which I don't hear, see, or read the word 'Trump' and that day will be a fine one.  Slowly but surely he will go from hourly to daily to weekly to maybe even monthly new cycle.

Today is a glorious day and I think most concerned adults are glad to see that Trump went out, not with a bang, but with a whimper.

I totally forgot the time table for today were EST.  This is going down an hour earlier that I thought.
