It's midnight in New York, and CNN just cut to Seoul where Donald Trump and the South Korean President Moon are about to hold a news conference. But the big news apparently is that Trump is hoping the North Korean leader Kim Jong will meet him a few miles away at DMZ. Trump says he will walk across the line of demarcation into North Korea to meet him if necessary.

CNN analysts call it a photo op. No serious policy change will result.

During the presser, Moon says he will go to the DMZ with Trump. Trump then talks and says he'll make a short statement because he's going to the DMZ to meet Kim. He rambles for a bit and says he made the offer to Kim yesterday and Kim agreed.

He is ad-libbing. He says Obama begged for a meeting and Kim wouldn't meet. But Kim is looking forward to meeting with him.

He said he's had the idea to meet Kim for a long time but he just thought of it yesterday and extended the offer to Kim.[More...]

During the q and a, he smirks continually as questions are asked. He announces four times the stock market went up the day after the 2016 election because he won.

Right before all this started tonight, CNN replayed Anthony Bourdain's trip to Iran, which I had not seen before. That was groundbreaking. This is a photo-op between two men with out-sized egos. It certainly didn't warrant two hours of non-stop coverage by CNN, whose analysts repeatedly pointed out there is no substance to this meeting and no reason for Trump to be rewarding Kim Jong Un with anything.

looks bloated from drugs or maybe he is just that fat. He just generally looks awful and then it's like he has dementia. He uses the same words and phrases over and over and can't seem to answer questions.

Trump on Saturday appeared to confuse a Civil Rights-era practice of school integration referred to as "busing" with the use of buses as a general mode of transportation for students.
"there aren't that many ways you're going to get people to schools."

I can't imagine what the secret service was going through. He obviously made his own rules on the DMZ. That little Kim guy, he has snipers on the DMZ. Trump could get popped so easily. But I'm sure you can't tell him chit, so carry on Trumpsters.

The Administration has given up on the census citizenship question case. They will not go back to court with another rationale (as the S.Ct. had diplomatically offered them, after finding the originally stated reason to be a pretext) but rather will simply go ahead and print the census form without the "are you a citizen" question! Not as good as a favorable gerrymandering decision, but still an important victory for fairness and democracy.

The government's abandonment of their defense of the cases was reported in writing yesterday by the assigned Dept of Justice attorney to the presiding judges. (I believe there are two cases.) The Attorney General and Solicitor General ultimately decide the government's position in litigation, and there is no way the DoJ attorney made that representation yesterday without approval from the top. The President can call in the SG (or the AG) and chew them out, or even fire them, but whether a judge allows the government to reverse their position now is another kettle of fish.

advice of Chip Roy (R.TX) who is urging him to ignore the Supreme Court ruling (up until now, chip has been best known for blocking $19 billion in disaster relief). Supreme Court, Food Court, what is the difference?

However, Trump may be deploying his usual lying to counter the "caving" label and placate his base. His claim is that he "is moving forward", whatever that means to him. All the base will remember is that Trump is fighting to make America white again.

And then there is his tweet. Probably not written by him--not the customary spelling/grammatical errors. The tweet also uses the word "quest", which we know is not a part of his vocabulary.

But, Trump may just take Chip's advice after all. What better way for him to celebrate the Fourth of July than to ignore the US Constitution and the Supreme Court. Probably receive less criticism by some for violating his oath of allegiance to the Constitution than for tanks rumbling through holiday picnics on the D.C. mall. Although Speaker Pelosi may be troubled.

considering an executive order to get around those nettlesome court rulings. Just must have that citizenship question on the census form. Some WH lawyers are fearful that they wil not get away with it. Maybe, just maybe, a little sanity will take root.

does, the situation is chaotic. The Department of Commerce is still enjoined by more than one court from adding the citizenship question to the census form and if DOJ does not stipulate (written agreement) that the issue is over by 2 pm Friday, July 5, Judge George Hazel, Federal District in Maryland, says he will reconsider discrimination and conspiracy charges. The DOJ attorneys seemed as out of the loop as the judge and everyone else. In fact, Judge Hazel suggested that the DOJ is not really representing his client.
Chief Justice Roberts, writing for the majority, stated flat out, that the Administration's position was "contrived"--- i.e., pretended, false, manufactured. A pretty astounding and breathtaking statement by a Chief Justice.
And now, DOJ is asking how they can put the question on the form without following the law, the Constitution, or the Supreme Court ruling. The DOJ, to satisfy Trump, will probably by-pass the lower courts and go directly to the Supreme Court. Hope Roberts says, give us a call when we get back in September.

President Donald Trump signaled possible new findings might be coming from investigators in New York state in a Monday afternoon Twitter rant.
The president sent out three tweets attacking the state's Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Attorney General Letitia James claiming harassment against his family and their businesses.
"It is very hard and expensive to live in New York," Trump began. "Governor Andrew Cuomo uses his Attorney General as a bludgeoning tool for his own purposes. They sue on everything, always in search of a crime. I even got sued on a Foundation which took Zero rent & expenses & gave away more money than it had."
"Going on for years, originally brought by Crooked Hillary's Campaign Chair, A.G. Eric Schneiderman, until forced to resign for abuse against women," he continued. "They never even looked at the disgusting Clinton Foundation."
"Now Cuomo's A.G. is harassing all of my New York businesses in search of anything at all they can find to make me look as bad as possible," the president added. "So, on top of ridiculously high taxes, my children and companies are spending a fortune on lawyers. No wonder people and businesses are fleeing New York in record numbers!"
