Are Trump Businesses in a Slump?

Ivanka Trump today announced she will close her clothing business. It was down to 18 employees. The boycotts of her clothes had a big effect. Other companies decided to stop carrying her line due to slumping sales.

The company, based in New York’s Trump Tower, had been dropped by retailers such as Nordstrom due to flagging sales. Its dresses, shoes and handbags — all of which were made in foreign countries such as China and Indonesia — also conflicted with her push for more jobs in the United States.

...“Views on the brand have become highly polarized, and it has become a lightning rod for protests and boycotts,” said Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData Retail. “While the company is still viable, doing business has become far more challenging and these problems will only increase.”

But it's not just Ivanka's business that seems to be in a slump. Remember Scion, the new hotel line Trump's sons were going to open (more affordable and planned for several mid-western cities)? Not a single one has been opened. [More...]

Sales data on Trump-branded condominiums in New York City show them attracting lower prices than competing properties since Donald Trump became president. Meanwhile, the Trump Organization’s plans to dramatically expand its hotel portfolio in the United States have failed to progress, having opened no hotels under its announced “Scion” and “American Idea” brands.

Even Mar-a-Lago numbers are down:

....data on other Trump properties including the the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida show signs of price drops as sports teams and charities move their business elsewhere.

Trump's name was taken off properties in Panama City (Panama), Toronto, and Soho (New York), and some residential buildings in New York.

In addition:

Sales data on Trump-branded condominiums in New York City show them attracting lower prices than competing properties since Donald Trump became president.

I've always believed the best way to get Trump out of office is to convince him his businesses are failing without him. As I wrote last week about his attempt to butter up Putin:

Since the election, his businesses have been under-performing, in large part due to the untalented offspring who are in charge of running them. I think Trump is completely and selfishly focused on how he's going to make money once he is separated from his desk in the oval office. He has never cared about the welfare of the United States.

The key to getting rid of Trump is to make him want to leave. Showing him how much his little foray into politics is costing him -- and that it's likely to go from a drip to a deluge may be the best way.

think tRump is fkd in any case. I think his business and entire wealth is a house of cards floating on celebrity and laundered Russian money.

If justice is served his name will be dirt for centuries (remember Benedict Arnold) and the Russian money will certainly go elsewhere to avoid scrutiny.

It's a fair bet that once he leaves the oval office, his creditors both fair and foul will come calling  and not leave without their pound of flesh.

It is all built on a house of cards and there's no substance. It's all a big con. When this is all said and done and the Russian money dries up he's probably not going to have a whole lot left.

I believe his love for Russia is based on the monies he has recieved from Russian Mafia money-laundering connected to his construction projects and that he is a simpleton with no understanding of the facts of Russian belligerence or geopolitics generally.

was not ready to accept Trump's invitation to come to Washington in fall.  Putin was not about to jeopardize his investment, even though Trump was giving America the finger after so many critiques of his Helsinki debacle.  Pompeo thought it was of "enormous" value, but it was not to be...Bolton said not until after the first of the year...after the Witchhunt  waa over  (he got his brownie points in). Another Trump humiliation at the hands of Putin.

Maybe, after the first of the year, but keep your calendar flexible.

David Ralston the speaker of the house asked Spencer to resign and apparently he did yesterday. Spencer already lost in the primary. Kudos to his GOP opponent who took him out in the primary for comdemning Spencer and apologizing to all those who were offended by Spencer.

The story of Spencer is that it should be no suprise he went along with Borat. This is the guy who has proposed or supported tons of fundamentalist legislation in the GA house.
