Wife of Don. Jr. Files for Divorce

Vanessa Trump, wife of Donald Jr. and mother of their five young children, has filed for divorce. Her lawyer is a New York criminal defense attorney named David Feurelson.

Ivana Trump had a very prominent criminal defense attorney, Michael Kennedy (R.I.P.) as her divorce attorney.

The split has been a long-time coming, according to the media. Vanessa allegedly doesn't like that Don. Jr. is always traveling or the constant attention due to the Trump name or his tweeting.

One article said they had hoped to stay married through Donald's occupancy of the oval office, but their differences were too great.

They obviously have a pre-nup, and apparently have worked out child custody as Vanessa filed the petition as "an uncontested proceeding" which means neither party has to appear.

is intriguing, in that news of the divorce -- uncontested -- came on the same day of news of Mueller's subpoenas (a few we ks ago) to the Trump Organijzation, the company now headed by Donald, Jr.:

This is to protect (by allocating them to his wife) half of the family assets.

have to ask some of the attorneys here to weigh in on this kind of thing. I do know that I worked with someone who had an ex-husband that did something shady with their taxes and she had to pay the taxes during the time that they were married.

engagement ring?... the jewelry store, the Russians, or Vanessa?  Don jr, reenacted his marriage proposal, on bent knee, by presenting the engagement ring ($100,000 ring) to Vanessa Haydon at a jewelry store at the Short Hills Mall in New Jersey.  The quid pro quo (something the Trumps are familiar with) Barkley, Banks Jewelry Store made the diamond ring available and Don Jr. made himself available for promotionals.  Only the paparazzi and TV cameras were permitted at this swank ceremony.

The engagement ring and wedding ring are property of the wife, they are a gift, not community property divided at divorce.

In many jurisdictions, the engagement ring is considered  `a gift in contemplation of marriage' and if the marriage does not occur, for whatever reason, the ring is to be returned. But that isn't the case here.

A quick search shows that Feurelson is a GENERAL PRACTICE lawyer whose practice includes Family and Matrimonial Law.

One assumes the media is pushing the `criminal law' narative to be provocative. I checked and his LinkedIn page doesn't define his specialty but he is listed on Lawyers.com:

Bartels & Feureisen, LLP is a firm serving White Plains in General Civil and Criminal Trial Practice, Personal Injury and Matrimonial and Family Law cases.

Feureisen clearly does practice criminal defense and most notably secured the release of a New York man named Anthony DiSimone from federal prison in 2007 after a judge overturned a murder conviction related to a bar fight in 1994.

Clearly he does practice criminal law (which to a layman implies Perry Mason courtroom trials for criminal charges) but he also lists Matrimonial and Family Law as one of his areas of practice.

I would expect that Vanessa Trump was referred to this lawyer. Perhaps a friend used him in her divorce, perhaps a personal friend who is an attorney recommended him. We don't know.

To me it seems obvious that the media is being provocative. They are implying and often flatly asserting that her attorney is `not an expert in family law' and because he exclusively handles criminal law, he is a `surprising choice.' To me it seems no such thing. I am puzzled that this isnt blatantly obvious to everyone here.

Criminal Law and Family Law are different specialties.

You can be good in either one, but both at the same time?   Don't think so.

Why do you believe you have the expertise here to opine on legal specialization?

The firm lists those areas of practice. A firm can employ any number of attorneys in any number of specialties. Strangely enough, the pages on their website which list information about their attorneys aren't up.

Vanessa Trump hired a criminal defense attorney to represent her in her divorce from Donald Trump Jr. just as special counsel Robert Mueller subpoenaed the president's family business, The Post has learned.

White Plains, NY-based lawyer David Feureisen is representing Vanessa Trump, according to paperwork filed in Manhattan Supreme Court late Thursday.

Her life has been very stressful. The anthrax scare didn't help. I hope they catch the person who did that.

Donald Trump Jr.'s wife was taken to a hospital as a precaution Monday after she opened an envelope that contained an unidentified white powder, police said.

Seems I haven't been following the news. Seems he has already been arrested.

A Massachusetts man has been charged with sending numerous envelopes containing abusive, threatening messages and "suspicious white powder" to Donald Trump Jr. and other public figures, federal authorities said.

Daniel Frisiello was taken into custody by the FBI "without incident" Thursday, Assistant Special Agent in Charge Peter Kowenhoven told reporters in Boston. The 24-year-old from Beverly, Mass., faces five counts of mailing threatening communications and false information and hoaxes, according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Massachusetts.

One envelope, sent last month from Boston to the New York home of the president's son, was filled with a white powder that spilled out "onto the addressee's wife," according to the complaint. Addressed to "DonalD trump Jr," it included a note that read: "You are an awful, awful person, I am surprised that your father lets you speak on TV. You make the family idiot, Eric, look smart. This is the reason why people hate you, so you are getting what you deserve. So shut the [expletive] up."
