NYT Report: Trump Unhappy With AG Sessions

The New York Times reports Donald Trump is unhappy with his AG pick, Jefferson Sessions. There seems to be two reasons: He regards Sessions' immigration memo as a "watered down" version of his executive order, and he's mad that Sessions recused himself on Russia.

This sounds more like water-cooler gossip to me than facts suggesting Sessions' tenure will be short-lived.

However, Mr. Trump is said to be aware that firing people now, on the heels of dismissing James B. Comey, the F.B.I. director, would be risky. He has invested care and meticulous attention to the next choice of an F.B.I. director in part because he will not have the option of firing another one. The same goes for Mr. Sessions, these people said.

I wish it were otherwise, but I don't think it is.

Trump keeps Sessions guessing, is he in or out. Trump feels more powerful that way and can manage to squeeze Sessions where and when needed.  Sessions avoided Senator Franken's question during confirmation hearings about whether he would recuse himself, and then answered a question not asked--untruthfully.  The recusal followed and Trump hated it.

This is a low-bar Administration where Sessions is the most ethical one. Consider the invitation this week of Senators Marco Rubio and Tom Cotton to dinner at the White House.  Maybe, even two scoops of ice cream.

Marco and Tom will be among senators questioning Comey on Thursday.  This is, of course, Republican-criticism free, since not on the tarmac and Cotton and Rubio do not have grandchildren to talk about.

same story about others in the Trump administration but yet they linger on. I guess this is just another case of that.

Jeff Sessions did something. He has perjured himself, and President Trump can point to that as legit  reason to fire him.

Even though Trump has been told firing Sessions would cause a political storm like nothing seen yet, it can't be comfortable being Jeff Sessions right now.

Not that that upsets me. I hope his soul is in horrendous pain.

firing Sessions would cause a lot less commotion than firing Comey did as Sessions has recused himself from all the Russia investigations.

he's one of the big bones Trump threw to the hard-right. A token of his loyalty pledge, and a symbol of his commitment to conservative core values; as flaccid and hypocritical as those may be.
