Senate Confirms Jeff Sessions as Attorney General

The Senate just confirmed Jeff Sessions as Attorney General. Vote talley here.

One Dem, Joe Manchin of W Va voted for him.
No Republican voted against him.
Two independents joined with Dems and voted no.

Final vote: 52 to 47. (Sessions didn't vote.)

The clapping sounded like a toilet flushing (I only have audio here.)

How demoralizing, to quote Neil Gorsuch, about Trump's comments on the 9th Circuit judges.

Tom Price, who reportedly wants to gut Medicare, is up for a Cloture vote now.

    I knew he was going to get voted in. The Republicans now own the odious Sessions. Dems and some conservatives pointed out what an awful pick Sessions was but Republicans embraced him. No one can say the GOP doesn't agree with all the awful stuff Sessions stands for.

    this will be more true of DeVos than of Sessions.

    including my daughter and many others in my family, who know the impact of mandates on their daily work. They were not fans of the more intrusive actions by Arne Duncan's (and thus Obama, although all were fans of him for other reasons).  I see a lot of their social media discussions, and they are demoralized by DeVos.

    And those of us in higher education know that she can have -- and promises to have -- massive impact on strides made under Duncan and Obama regulating for-profit higher ed (the main culprits for student debt), campus sexual assault, and more.

    Yes, Sessions as AG is awful, but let's not diminish that so is Devos as Education Secy.

    It also might be that Sessions will face an insurrection among the people that work in DOJ and the same with DeVos. The way the leaking has been going on about everything I would imagine that every incompetent thing DeVos does and every time Sessions decides to torture an average American by abusing the law it will make it into the papers.
