Kushner Cleared to be Presidential Advisor

Donald Trump has been given the green light for son-in-law Jared Kushner to serve as his advisor.

Here's the legal opinion of the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel.

(My opinion: Forget Mike Pence. Apparently, America elected Jared Kushner. Trump, who has no clue how to govern, little inclination to learn and even less of an attention span thinks his son-in-law will figure it all out. If not, he can always seek Ivanka's opinion.)

So now he's also an expert on Mexico, as he's included in the meetings this week with Mexican President Peña Nieto.

Negotiations will include newly appointed Mexican diplomat Luis Videgaray and members of the Trump government including White House Secretary Reince Priebus, Trump's son-in-law and top-level adviser Jared Kushner and top-level adviser Stephen Bannon.

... Peña Nieto now has the worst approval rate for a Mexican president since probes were made. In addition to his management of Trump, Mexicans are dissatisfied with corruption, rising drug-trafficking violence, and a Jan. 1 reform that triggered increases of up to 20 percent in gasoline prices.

Peña Nieto and Trump together may have the combined lowest approval ratings of their respective countries ever.

Superman Kushner should advise his father-in-law on how to show some class and manners, and forget about trying to solve world problems about which he has zero relevant experience. The White House is no place for people still on training wheels.

is somewhat contorted, acknowledging that in several cases since 1978, the Office of Legal Counsel determined that the anti-nepotism statute prevented presidents from appointing relatives to positions.

For example, President Carter was not allowed to appoint Mrs. Carter to chair a mental health commission or to appoint his son to an advisory position (both non-paid), although in 1977 before a controlling interpretation of a 1978 statute.

And, President Reagan, 1983, was prevented from appointing a relative to an advisory position, and in 2009, President Obama was barred from appointing his brother-in-law and half sister to advisory committees.

In exempting Trump from a 1967 law enacted after President Kennedy appointed his brother as Attorney General, Daniel Koffsky, deputy AG, concluded that the departure is fully justified. A part of that justification is that the approval subjects Jared Kushner to usual ethics rules and the requires the filing of a financial disclosure report.

Mr. Kushner, CEO of Kushner Companies, an umbrella organization of vast real estate holdings, will step down from his post and sell some of his assets to his brother and place the remainder in a trust run by his mother.

While a lot better than his father-in-law, Kushner, could probably re-acquire his assets from his family members when he leaves office. This is probably the best we can get from this swampland administration. And, I believe that Kushner is a containing factor and companion human for Trump. The Rasputin of the Administration, Bannon, is the one that should be barred, somehow, someway.

woudnt pick on melania. people who are embaressed about the way people percieve them sometimes exagerate their achievements or education. it's not a moral failing, it's because they are defencive.

i would like to make two points:

the career options for "model" are model to married-well or model to men's videos. melania did fine.
in mobster movies you dont hate on al-capone's kept girlfriend.

that should have read, "the career options for poor slovakian girls working as models is either married-well or men's films." i actually meant to imply some level of comtempt for men and the p0rn industry. you are welcome to accuse me of ethno-stereotypes as well. because i know you will.

... would stop pretending that she is a helpless victim. She was not forced to drop out of college or to pretend she graduated from college. She was not forced to present Michele Obama's speech as her own. She was not forced to marry Donald Trump. She was not "poor". She was working as a fashion model in Milan and Paris before coming to the United States. There were numerous options for her as a young model in this country apart from marrying a wealthy man or "men's videos".

Patronizing her does not make her more sympathetic, but it's interesting that you think she "did fine" by marrying Trump.

as our blog troller also is incorrect that the Knausses were poor. Both parents were employed, and the family was considered middle-class.
And Ms. Trump is no quiet, quiescent victim, as she has been outspoken in support of the large orange lout's birtherism and other abhorrent beliefs. She may have gone digging for gold, but she has dug her own ideological grave along the way -- and no one on this blog ought to be an apologist for that.
