Day 2, 1,381 Days to Go

The ACLU is ready on Day One. It's filed its first lawsuit demanding documents on Donald Trump.

Photo belongs to ACLU

The public deserves to know if the new president bases any of his decisions on personal gain. So we've taken legal action, demanding Trump documents related to actual or potential conflicts of interest.

With your help, we will remain vigilant, and continue to take action if Trump or his administration try to ignore the fundamental rules of our democracy, run roughshod over ethical norms, and trample on people’s constitutional rights. We hope you are with us—donate to the ACLU today.

No unity here. Lawsuits? Yes, bring them on. Now. Before Trump has a chance to get his conservative judicial nominees through Congress. Please donate to and support the Groups filing them.

At the very end of the Rock Opera "Tommy" when his senses have been restored, Tommy thinks he's the messiah. He tells people what they can and cannot do. The people who had championed him previously as a pinball wizard, turned on him. "We're not gonna take it." Curtain.

Day 2. 1381 days to go.

What kind of Trump documents does the ACLU want? (2.00 / 1) (#3)
by JeriKoll on Sat Jan 21, 2017 at 05:36:28 PM EST
I thought FOIA pertained to government documents.  Up to this point in time what kind of documents could the ACLU get?  The government doesn't have any.  Trump hasn't given any.

Seems like, it is just the ACLU wanting money.

Now from here on out, ok, there will  be documents.

You can google it (none / 0) (#4)
by Yman on Sat Jan 21, 2017 at 06:10:00 PM EST
They're seeking any email, memos, communications from federal agencies regarding Trump's potential (heh) conflicts if interest produced by the agencies since the election.

But hopefully it will help them raise a LOT of money.

    Not my intention.

I thought it was a good common sense question.

I don't know where your misinformation charge comes from.  I wish you had detailed the misinformation so I could understood and retract it.
(I did read the post carefully, but not necessarily the information the urls pointed to.)

Still, I don't stay where I am not welcome and you the owner of this forum, seem to be indicating that, so ...

    The Spicer presser (none / 0) (#1)
by Mr Natural on Sat Jan 21, 2017 at 05:03:35 PM EST
was a laugh riot, pointilist contentions as pointless and endless as any of the more pointless bickering we've all seen and loved (elsewhere).

Not only that, but Spicer's suit was an ill fitting p.o.s.

The implosion and collapse of this administration is gonna be epic.

    Remenber when Ari Fleisher (5.00 / 1) (#13)
by ding7777 on Sun Jan 22, 2017 at 11:37:09 AM EST
started his 1st week as press secretary by falsely claiming the Clinton's trashed the White House?  The MSM lapped it up and ran with it.

The only difference between Spicer and Fleisher is that the lies are now being told about the MSM and not to them

    The press conference (5.00 / 1) (#14)
by KeysDan on Sun Jan 22, 2017 at 11:56:30 AM EST
reminded of the Nixon sense of siege; Nixon giving his press secretary, Ron Ziegler, a push so hard he landed on his rear, admonishing him to get out there and let them have it.  If there was a Spicer push, at least it was off camera. But, the instructions in rage seemed eerily similar.

If there was ever any doubt about their strategy before,  it's long gone.  They're going to try to delegitimize mainstream news organizations and rEnlaces them with Twitter and wingnut websites.

First, for highlighting the fact that the ACLU is one of the few organizations willing to hold Trump accountable.

Second, for posting a clip of the Who.

I suggest that anyone who opposes Trump make a donation to the ACLU or one of the other groups trying to hold Trump accountable for his conflict of interests nightmare such as the Center for Responsive Politics, the Center for Public Integrity, ProPublica, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, or Democracy 21.

the who could have predicted files:
Mr. Trump grew increasingly angry on Inauguration Day after reading a series of Twitter messages pointing out that the size of his inaugural crowd did not rival that of Mr. Obama's in 2009. But he spent his Friday night in a whirlwind of celebration and affirmation. When he awoke on Saturday morning, after his first night in the Executive Mansion, the glow was gone, several people close to him said, and the new president was filled anew with a sense of injury.

I knew The Donald was capable of  and would do things like this during his Presidency.
Just didn't expect it on Day 1, lol.

The Donald was not my choice, mostly for his temperament, and some policy issues.

I am impressed overall by the Cabinet, and expect good economic policies overall.

you supported someone who you knew would act like a petulant child at some time during the presidency?

Please don't deflect that he was not your first choice, it's clear who's side you came down on.

Every Republican with more than two brain cells knew what they were voting for, and the vast majority put party over country.

How many times will you have to repeat this line

I knew The Donald was capable of  and would do things like this during his Presidency.
it may very well be the epithet for our country.

I couldn't support him, and did not vote for him. I also did not vote for Madame Secretary.

Once he won, I just hoped he would surround himself with a capable Cabinet, which he has.

And hope he actually focuses on governing instead of   dueling swords in the Twitterverse. Not likely.

    thou dost protest too much.

You have consistently used that "he's not my guy" dodge while consistently defending him to the hilt and/or relentlessly attacking Clinton.

It is clear to any sentient being that the Presidential election was a binary choice. It is abundantly clear from your rhetoric which side you fell on, no matter who you actually voted for.

Tr*mp is as dumb as a rock.  Well, a dumb rock.  The Strategic Defense Initiative promised us smarter rocks.

You seem surprised that he remains as stupid this week as he was before the inauguration.  Did you expect that after 70 years, the guy was going to SUDDENLY GET SMART JUST BECAUSE HE SWORE AN OATH?

What made you expect this unlikely event, if I may be so bold as to ask? Did W get smart just by swearing the same oath?

annoying thing ever to me. He showed us who he was. People like Trevor made excuse after excuse for him. Trump is totally acting the same way he has been ever since he started campaigning. But this is the complete Republican big lie. Too bad they worked so hard to get him into office since the rest of us are going to have to suffer with this idiotic 12 year old bully. For all we know his son might be more mature than he is.

that "prominent constitutional scholars, Supreme Court litigators and former White House ethics lawyers" plan to filesuit tomorrow a.m. alleging Drumpf violating our Constitution because his businesses (e.g., hotels, etc.) are accepting payments from foreign governments.
Among those preparing legal papers is Lawrence Tribe.

Asking court for injunction against acceptance of payments such as loans from banks under control of foreign governments.
