Indiana and Beyond: Republicans to Get Trump'd

As Ted Cruz and Donald Trump wade into the mud with their personal attacks against each other, Republicans are coming to grips with the realization that Donald Trump will be their nominee.

Former John McCain top advisor Mark Salter says he'll vote for Hillary. Here's his Tweet:

The GOP is going to nominate for President a guy who reads the National Enquirer and thinks it's on the level. I'm with her.

Reuters contacted Salter who added: "She is fit for office. He isn't." "Salter also called Clinton "the more conservative choice."

... most Sanders supporters are actually rational adults who can think for themselves, and will likely realize that Salters' remarks are actually less an indicator of Mrs. Clinton's political bearings, than they are a direct reflection of the present state of discord, disarray and disillusionment within the GOP's ranks.

Anecdotal evidence - I'd say it's about 75/25 with 75% being more rational, and 25% being more loud.

And even the 75% are starting to get visibly agitated by the 25%.

He has involved JFK.   You do not speculate in any unflattering way about Tweetys meal ticket.

I can tell you that Donald is going to do very poorly in the Atlanta collar counties which is what the GOP has depended on for years to carry GA. He will probably do well in the rural areas and especially north GA but it might not be enough for him to carry GA.

The GOP here apparently thinks he can really mess them up to the extent that they changed the GOP primary to be at a different time of year this year instead of during the presidential primary.

Is it accurate to look at this as a case of Cruz trying to jump out and lead the tea party faction, and them saying 'no thanks, we like Trump better'? Because no one likes Cruz, and until Trump jumped in there was no one the people Cruz was trying to grab could get behind?

He didn't even win enough tea party.  Donald was even beating him with evangelicals.

IMO it's about winning.  Donald was able to convince them he could win and Ted coukd not.  In the end all the high moral stuff was tossed right out the window.  To win.

    And he won't.

Little Paulie Ryan goes on CNN and gets all officious and says he "just can't endorse Donald yet"

Then, and this is the good part, Trump fires back-

A short time later, the presumptive Republican nominee responded with his own dig at the most powerful elected Republican in the country.

"I am not ready to support Speaker Ryan's agenda," Trump wrote in a statement. "Perhaps in the future we can work together and come to an agreement about what is best for the American people. They have been treated so badly for so long that it is about time for politicians to put them first!"

    Translation-
STFU kid.  You had your turn and lost.  This is my party now.

I have an idea.  I thing Ryan and Donald should hold competing events.  Same town same time and see who gets the biggest crowd.

Ryan may be standing but mo longer be Speaker.

As far as the rest of the republican news, both Bushes have demurred.  And the two last republican loser are not going to the convention.

Dearie me!  How can Donald possibly survive?  This is amazing.  IMHO.

As far as brave Paulie, Trump lost Ryan's district pretty badly.   He feels safe.  Ir Trump had won his district he would be rolling over on his back and peeing a little like all the republicans in districts and states Trump won.

Personally I have not enjoyed anything as much as Saint Paulie Ryan getting b!tch slapped in months.

love it. Watching the Republican rats jump ship is pure gold. It is especially entertaining to watch the establishment up and comers squirm as they try to triangulate a course through hurricane Trump.

If and when Trump goes down in flames, Ryan will come out as the undisputed leader of the GOP if he can avoid going down with the ship, there are many Republicans doing that same calculus.
