Monday Night TV

I'm so excited that Senor de Los Cielos returns tonight for season 4. It's on Telemundo and has English captioning. At 8:00 (MT), you can watch a special that recaps the first three seasons. At 9:00, the first episode of Season 4 begins.

Here's my recap
of the last season from the finale.

On the recap episode tonight: This is not a show that hesitates to kill off beloved characters, which adds to the suspense, but it's sad watching because some were so good and such a central part of the show for seasons, and it's a reminder we won't be seeing them again.

There will of course be new villains, from corrupt military and government officials (in Mexico and elsewhere) and corrupt police and DEA agents, to bad-a** drug lords from Colombia, and local competitors. There will be new, sexy romantic partners for Aurelio.

This won't be a happy season for Aurelio Casillas (loosely based on Amado Carrillo Fuentes, the head of the Juarez Cartel, who reportedly died in 1997 while having plastic surgery). He will first have to pay (Karma-wise) for all the bad things he's done. And the popular character Chema Venegas (who may or may not be based on El Chapo) won't be back this season, although he could return in season 5, if there is one.

The show airs five nights a week. It's a lot of hours, but it goes quick. Back in September, when the finale aired to Season 3, it left a huge hole in my TV viewing schedule. So I'm really glad it's back.

One other thing that makes this show stand out from other Narco shows is the intricate detail given to design -- the homes and furnishings are really beautiful. The same attention is given to clothing, especially the women characters. They wear some great stuff (and look terrific in it.) [Added: The attention to detail was evident tonight, especially in the room where Aurelio and his nephew Victor argued. I once read in an interview with a show producer that the house details are all authentic -- the only thing they skimp on is not actually having the water turned on for the faucets.

All the prior seasons are on Netflix, You Tube and elsewhere, but I recommend buying the DVDS on Amazon or Ebay. No commercials, unedited and the DVD's have subtitles (rather than close captioning.)

In other TV viewing news, James Corden is back from vacation on the CBS's Late Late Show tonight, with the official start to Season 2. He is still my flavor of the week -- the happiest man on television and very funny -- so is his sidekick and musical director Reggie Watts. I have never been a fan of late night talk shows, but his show is different. If you aren't already hooked, give it a try. He really is laugh out loud funny.

Tuesday night CBS will air a new edition of carpool karaoke in prime time. (It will feature Jennifer Lopez.) It might even become a series. My favorites are the ones with Justin Bieber and One Direction. But as good as carpool karaoke is, it's only a small part of Corden's overall show and talent. And he has really good musical guests. So watch him on the Late Late Show, or if you don't stay up that late, record it and watch the next night.

Update: I was a little concerned that Corden has gotten so much publicity in the past few months that when he came back from vacation he wouldn't be so humble, and joyous. I needn't have worried. He was the same humble, happy, funny guy -- as giddy as ever, maybe even more so. I don't think I've ever seen anyone who loves his job as much as he does. It's just infectious. I suspect after his prime time show tomorrow, he will be a household word. He's hosting the Tony Awards in May. I won't be surprised if next year he hosts the Oscars. He'd be perfect for it -- if he could bring his own writers.

This thread is for all things TV, whatever you're watching.

I've been really impressed with the gorgeous visuals in the last few episodes. Those stairwell shots of Kim a couple of weeks ago were amazing. And the montage of Jimmy's suits last night.

All in all a trult great show, IMO.

Monday is my serious TV night!! Gotham and Bates Motel and Better Call Saul.

I'm so dissapointed with the new season of "Awkward" and "Faking It." They used to be my favorite shows. But I'm still watching the new episodes tonight. Does anybody else here watch?

races toward the end of the 6th season.  And IM NOT READY!

The Walking Dead season 6 finale trailer offers first glimpse of Negan and Lucille

First, my earlier prediction of Maggie is wrong.  Can't be Maggie.  It could follow the books.  I think it will not.  Clearly they are messing with us because one of the reasons I fell for the Maggie meme was she appeared with a different haircut than she has had for 6 years.  Sunday nite she got that haircut in the series.  HEADFAKE!!
Glenn would follow the book.   Daryl would be devestatimg because he is such a central character, but that's the point.

    My new theory is Carol.

There is, I've said before, a reason this is the biggest thing in tv.  And it's not zombies.  At this point the zombies are really a minor part of the story.
It's the writing and the acting and the direction and the production values and one of the most subtle and nuanced and consistently excellent example of ensemble drama ever on tv.

If you are avoiding the show because of zombies you are missing the point and a great entertainment experience.

Sorry for gushing but the 6th season has been the best ever.  And me and almost everyone else has said that every single year.  That is no small feat.  And remarkably it's just now getting to some of the best parts of the story.  It feels like the are just hitting their stride.

I don't see how the awards operations can ignore this season.  I think it might finally get some long overdue love.

Fan favourite Dixon found himself in a particularly life-threatening situation at the climax of the latest episode which aired in the UK last night (28 March) with actor Reedus telling fans they should be "extremely worried" for the charac

    I think so.

Really.  Hair styles?  The world is swarming with implausibly ambulatory zombies and the survivors are getting their hair styled?

The group has found a bit of an oasis for the last couple of seasons.  Where they have real houses and beds with sheets and showers and yes haircuts.

The protection of this is what is hanging in the balance in the finale.

They are about to meet the worst thing that's ever happened to them.  An honey that ain't no small thing.
