Ted Cruz Thanks You Know Who

You don't need to listen to Ted Cruz's speech. You know what he said. Like Rubio, it's all the work of You Know Who.

Good luck with that in November. Trump will eat them both alive. I would bet that You Know Who will never run the United States of America in my lifetime.

Borowitz: Cruz Victory Gives Hope to... (5.00 / 1) (#4)
by Mr Natural on Tue Feb 02, 2016 at 04:51:27 AM EST
    ...Despised People Everywhere.

"Sometimes, knowing that everyone in the office hates me so much that they won't even ride in an elevator with me kind of brought me down," she said. "That's why this Cruz thing is such a game-changer."

    That speech (5.00 / 2) (#5)

Which try as I might I have not been able to avoid clips of will absolutely remind everyone everywhere that no matter what that Ted Cruz can under no circumstances be allowed to win the nomination.

If fir no other reason to avoid another of those speeches.

    Of course, it's just my opinion, but, (5.00 / 2) (#14)

the biggest winner of all last night, by far, was Marco Rubio.

You're right about Cruz; There's really no way he will or should win. An extraordinary effort by him in Iowa got him the victory. He's been focusing on Io like crazy for months; fantastic ground game (12,000 volunteers,) The Evangelicals came home in the end, and the unexpected dip for Trump at the end all combined to give him this unique, probably unrepeatable, confluence of factors to put him over the top. And, fairly or not, being known as "the most hated person in Washington" can't help.

Trump? Well, we'll just to wait and see. Personally, I think he's finished. He had his shot, everything went right for him, he caught a bubble, and, rode it expertly. But, now, his brand is tarnished, if not, destroyed. A "loser," is still a loser, and, not something he needed if he was going to keep the illusion moving forward.

So, it's Rubio. He's got a piece of all the different constituencies: War mongers, abortion foes, Xenophobes, border security wackos, religious extremists, and, anti-regulation fanatics. Plus, youthful good looks, and excellent speaking ability certainly don't hurt. All in all, a perfect far right zealot, the Republican Anti-Christ to John Kennedy.

At this stage of the game, in the world of political predictions, it looks like those who put their money where their mouths were picked the right horse.

    My opinion as well (5.00 / 1) (#15)

I don't think Trump is finished at all.   I don't always agree with Charles Pierce but he said something tonight I completely agree with.  The idea that a loss in an insignificant state where he was never expected to win will "be the end" of Trump is just as silly as the past 957 predictions of the same thing.
I thought the speech and the press conference today was very interesting.  Kdog is absolutely correct.  He sounded like a politician.  You will hear more of that.  He was magnanimous to everyone but Cruz.   Man, if I was Ted Cruz I would wrap myself in bubble wrap for the next week.  Cause Donald is coming.   I'm bettin when Donald is finished Ted there won't be anything the buzzards would touch.  I'm really looking forward to it.

As far as Marco.  I just don't think he's up to it.  I think he will likely be the last one standing but as someone recently said, Marco is the future, and he always will be.

NH could really change things in the "establishment lane" IMO.   Marco is going to be target one and ground zero for those guys.   And they have a lot to work with.  So some one else could easily be the last one standing.

    And
Consider that Donald has never run for an office for anything in his life.  Without pollsters, advisors, written speeches or really very much actual money came very close to winning in the last place in the country he would be expected to on his first time out against a whole list of guys who have literally been doing this their entire adult lives.
He just took the training wheels off.   I think it will get interesting.

expected to win IA closer to the voting according to polls. However since when did coming in 2nd in IA be a career ending venture? I can't believe anybody is making such stupid assumptions. I expect whoever is polling 2nd in NH will be the next recipient of whatever Trump is doling out.

Marco is too lazy and undisciplined to run for president. And the irony is that he started moving up in the polls once he started becoming the angry candidate instead of the sunny candidate.

I don't know if Trump's attacks on Cruz will do anything or not. I would have thought they would have taken him down in IA or were taking him down in IA but that did not end up being the case. I guess Kasich and Christie will be out after NH. NH probably is going to thin the herd a lot and it will be interesting to see what happens then.

I am not on the Cruz train. I don't think and have never thought someone as despised and despicable as Cruz is going to win the nomination.

That said, I really really hope he does.  Because I think he would bring the tsunamic republican loss of the ages.
I have come to very much doubt that Trump would.  Hillary might beat Donald but it would not be easy or pretty.  And I don't think it would have the same downticket effect a Cruz candidacy would have.

by FlJoe on Wed Feb 03, 2016 at 09:28:40 AM EST
Cruz has going for him is he has the hatred of the "right" people in the current anti-establishment landscape. In a normal cycle that hatred would surely doom him, not this time.

With his Evangelical support and his "drown the government" bon fides he has a floor of support(and plenty of money) to keep him competitive for a long time in a three man race.

NH, SC and NV and they say Trump, Cruz and then Rubio as the top three in that order. Once it gets to the winner take all primaries it's going to be interesting. All Donald has to get is 34% or more to get all the delegates. Since Iowa I wonder if he isn't being over polled somewhat but NH will be a good test as to how accurate polling is when it comes to him.

still think It will be T&C&R contest all the way through possibly leading to the dreaded brokered convention.

Rubio still has a lot to prove but the Media is starting to fall in love with him and soon he should have a lane to himself,  though I am not quite convinced that Rubio will be able to stand the heat when the spotlight really starts to shine on him.

If Rubio manages to get a second, or a very strong third(to Cruz) in NH he will have plenty of open highway in front of him, if not(hello Kasich) things get murkier(and probably better for Trump).

Rubio wilts under the spotlight too. I always get back to where does he win? As long as both Cruz and Trump are in the mix I just don't see Rubio being able to win anywhere. All Trump has to do is keep his numbers in the mid to high thirties and it's going to be enough with three to win.

They been in love since last spring.   The media fluffing you say Trump has been getting, I have always thought it was Rubio who was getting it.  They covered Trump.  How could they not.   But more often that not it was dismissive or sneering.   Rubio exactly the opposite.  He has been the fair haired boy the media has been fawning over from the beginning.  IMO.

you are right, they have consistently been awarding him high marks for his debate performances, other then that they have not really fluffed him that hard, although they have definitely stayed away from any negatives on him. I see more of a mild flirtation turning into a full bloom love affair right now. IMO.

Boosting Ted Cruz While Slowing Hillary Clinton"

"This is the most anxious electorate we've seen in a very long time," said David Gergen, an adviser to four presidents of both parties.

Mr. Cruz's triumph on Monday, combined with Senator Bernie Sanders's effective tie with Mrs. Clinton, demonstrated how bipartisan the bitterness has become. "It's striking," Mr. Gergen said, "that the winner of the Republican side represents the far right and the moral winner for the Democrats comes from the far left. It's a clear vote of no confidence in the economic order."

Monday night's results confirmed that despite the widening cultural and political fissures that have divided right and left, voters are united in an impatience, even a revulsion, at what they see as a rigged system that no longer works for them.

For Republicans, the enemy is an overreaching government, strangling their freedoms and pocketbooks. For Democrats, it is an unfair economy, shrinking their paychecks and aspirations.

I would feel better about the opposition to them if the Dems didn't resort to the God card as well whenever it suits them... although they don't do it quite as starkly.

Obama justified his opposition to the right of homosexual people to marry on the grounds of his religion. And, as I recall he brought God into it.

We have a country that has, or had, one of its tenets, the separation of Church and State.
