Ohio State Stabbings

Earlier news reports of a shooter at Ohio State have been corrected. The assailant drove over the curb, intentionally hitting people with his car, and then got out and started stabbing people with a butcher knife. 8 or 9 people are hospitalized. The only gun used was the gun a police officer used to kill the suspect.

The dead suspect is a Somali-born student at Ohio State named Abdul Razak Ali Artan. He is a legal permanent resident who came to the U.S. in 2014 after living in Pakistan since 2007. In an interview in August, he said he was afraid for Muslims. [More...]

If he really was scared, I wonder if Donald Trump is one of the reasons. In early November he gave a scathing speech against Somali immigrants in Minnesota.

Also, Somali-Americans have been targeted by domestic terror groups

Somali Americans have become a target for domestic terrorists. In September, three members of a militia group were arrested for allegedly plotting to bomb an apartment building in Garden City, Kansas, with a number of Somali-American residents and where one apartment was used as a mosque.

....According to the FBI complaint filed against the suspects, the men called themselves “the Crusaders” and Muslims “cockroaches”, and said that they wanted to “wake people up” with “a bloodbath”.

Authorities are looking into whether the attack was terror inspired. ISIS released a video a few days ago in which it called for attacks on the west and demonstrated how to slash a throat and make a bomb. The video was very gruesome, but I don't think the video inspired this attack.

ISIS doesn't have a big presence in Somalia -- it seized its first town at the end of October.

I'm sure answers will be forthcoming. In the meantime, best wishes for a speedy recovery to all who were injured in the attack.

as horrible as this is that the guy only had a knife instead of a gun. The death toll would have been much much worse with a gun.

Logan Chapman, a senior at Ohio State, was in a thermodynamics lecture at Watts Hall when a fire alarm went off and everyone went outside.

"We were waiting for the firetrucks to go. As soon as the firetrucks started to pull away, a white Honda Civic came flying into the crowd," Chapman said. "It probably hit three or four people. We thought it was an accident at first. Once the car had stopped, everyone was making sure the driver was okay. But he got out of the car and immediately started slashing people closest to the car with a knife.

"I am sick and tired of seeing [Muslims] killed & tortured EVERYWHERE. ... I can't take it anymore," the posting read, according to ABC News. "America! Stop interfering with other countries ... [if] you want us Muslims to stop carrying [out] lone wolf attacks."

I am in favor of his suggestion that the US stop intervening in Muslim countries. I say just buy their oil and let them kill each other.  However, I wonder how he explained to himself why so many more Muslims are tortured and killed by other Muslims than by non Muslims including the US.

Sadly, this appears to be the new normal

The guy provided his reasons in a posting the day of the event.
