Sorry I'm late with this. Yesterday 1-1-1 ATS. Now 4-10-1 for the World Cup. Today I have a pick in the first game but did not get it up here in time so a NO ACTION for TL purposes. I'll give you a Live Bet Australia (+1) (+150)

Group A - Manaus - Cameroon +½ (+135) over Croatia.

Group B - Rio de Janeiro - Spain -1 (-115) over Chile. It's do or die for the defending champions.

    would be great news for Mexico...so that's my rooting interest for the day.

    And it would be nice to see a Chilean upset...the more New World in the knockout stage the better.  Germany and Italy are locks I'm afraid, but we can root for Spain & England (and of course Portugal) to go home early.  Western Hemisphere represent!

    for England v. Italy to end with a negative 2 to negative 2 result and neither got to play in Final Jeopardy.  But I guess that defies the laws of futbol physics.

    We ARE the fresh damn it.  But for many of us who have been soccer enthusiasts for too many years, we have too little faith in fresh :)

    The Netherlands rooting section.  When Josh was watching images of them in the stands he asked who they were rooting for.  He said they were as crazy as the Wisconsin cheese heads.

    from my neck of the woods on the US v. Ghana telecast doing their best escaped lunatics in Brasil impression...they had a big "Queens NY" banner and everything.  I felt like a proud papa watching.

    The U.S. Patent & Trademark Office has determined that the term "Redskins" is indeed racially disparaging and offensive, and the Washington team's trademark on its own controversial name has been cancelled. The effective date of that ruling is presently on hold, pending the NFL's expected appeal.

    (The National Football League has a revenue-sharing agreement regarding team merchandising, etc., and so this ruling potentially affects the leagues 31 other teams as fellow stakeholders.)

    The writing's on the wall, Dan Snyder, and it's time to stop being so damned obstinate. Do the right thing, change the team's name, and put an end to this ongoing embarrassment for the sake of both yourself and everyone who's associated with you.

    Trademark attorney has already said that the Washington "Ethnic Slurs" will be appealing the ruling.
    No surprise, there.  I hope the "Ethnic Slurs" and the NFL lose this one.

    They don't get to determine what's a racial slur, or, not.

    The folks getting slurred do.

    Why is that so hard to figure out?

    And, the name, "Redskins" sucks anyway, whether it's an ethnic slur, or, not.

    Rename them "The Washington Warriors," and, move on to more important things. Like, maybe, being truthful to their athletes regarding their health and injuries.

    The French, who were the 2006 World Cup runners-up to Italy and considered one of the favorites in 2010, were instead upset in their opening round match against Mexico. And then, amid a lot of internal backbiting and infighting, they were eliminated in rather shocking fashion by the host South Africans, who were a very decided underdog. That face-plant led to a subsequent overhaul of the entire national team, from the coaches on down.

    This Spanish team is clearly a mere shadow of its 2010 championship persona in South Africa, and given their subpar play, it's really no surprise that they were knocked out early. It's too soon to tell if their ranks will be purged, similar to what occurred with the French national team in 2010, but it would not surprise me if that happens.

    "Sorry about that, Chief!" was one of the clichéd catch lines of an old TV sitcom favorite of mine from childhood, the incorrigibly silly Cold War spy spoof "Get Smart." Bumbling Special Agent Maxwell Smart would always use it in apology to CONTROL's head honcho (who was known only as "Chief") whenever he seriously messed up on the job -- which was at least once per episode.

    C'mon, tell us -- who's Brian Schweitzer?

    Just kidding. I know he's the former Democratic governor of Montana, whom some really incredibly serious people considered at one time to be really important, back when Republicans had those same really incredibly serious people absolutely convinced that the only Democrats who could ever be elected president were those who talked and acted like Republicans. Not surprisingly, most of those same really incredibly serious people were all residing inside the Beltway.

    So what did he say now?
