Boston News Conference: 6:00 PM ET: Indoor Stay Lifted

Sounds like the suspect is no longer in Watertown or even in the vicinity. The indoor stay in Watertown has been lifted.

Col. Alben: They have not not apprehended suspect yet, but they will. They followed leads in Eastern Mass, none were fruitful.

They will draw back the tactical teams in Watertown. FBI is leading the investigation.

Shorter version seems to be either he got away or he's dead.

Since patrols are continuing, are they looking for other suspects or people that aided the brothers?

He was already hurt according to a witness..  Sounds like suicide by cop.  Hope not.

He's just a kid after all.

the actual background of this young man is when we'll understand how it was possible for him to elude being apprehended for this long.

If he considers himself a soldier in a political movement, and if he had some training in avoiding capture "behind enemy lines" the answer will be more understandable.

They've been too wrong too many times.

OTOH, it's kind of interesting how two guys, one a teenager, have managed to make the combined forces of the federal, state and local governments run in circles for a week.

FWIW, he's got very little to look forward to if taken alive.  Between the media pressure and the public prejudgment*, he'll never draw another free breath.  All he can do by letting himself be taken into custody help make Carmen Ortiz look good and Obama's decision to keep her look correct.

    •  E.g., Barney Frank, interviewed on MSNBC earlier this afternoon, saying that if the remaining suspect came out of this dead it wouldn't bother him a bit.

Because the easy thing would have been put multiple bullets in him and be done with it.

But when you are trying to keep the public safe and keep him alive, you are going to get more "running in circles".

And I don't think this is about Carmen Ortiz or Obama. This is about two guys who allegedly went on a rampage and should get (or got) exactly what is/was coming to them.

And dead men don't talk, in which case we don't find out:

    1. Why they set off the bombs
    2. How long they'd been planning it
    3. If anyone else was involved

What's more important: That we give them "what they deserved" or that they go to prison and we get the information that could possibly help us deter this in the future?

with who knows how many thousands - millions? - of people glued to their TVs taking in every last syllable the media are uttering, and the media just rankly speculating to fill air time.  I mean, Brian Williams hears shots fired and he can say that those were shots fired with intent?

And - I'm sorry - but how stupid do the people in these neighborhoods have to be to be taking photos and videos with their phones?  Do they think this is just a movie?

I was out most of the day with my daughter, trying to get as much wedding stuff done as we could, so I was blissfully unaware of the ongoing drama.  Well, the courthouse only had one entrance open - my daughter wanted to get the marriage license today - but security was no more rigorous or intrusive than normal - they even let me take my bottle of water in.

I wish I didn't feel like the media really want this to be a Muslim extremist attack - almost like they've missed how quiet things have been here.

I am dreading whatever fresh authoritarian hell is going to come out of this, but in the meantime, I think I'm not going to watch any more of the dreck that passes for "reporting" on this whole situation.
