One of my favorite Bon Jovi concerts to watch -- Live Earth in 2007 -- I don't think I've ever seen Al Gore get so excited.

I only uploaded the first 25 seconds because the music is copyrighted. But you can view the whole thing on You Tube. For videos from the current tour, check out JoviGirl1983

The TL kid will be here in an hour so I'm off to get ready. I know there's lots of news today, but it will have to wait until tomorrow for me.

    died today at age 82. He was a recovering alcoholic who underwent a liver transplant a number of years ago.

    Pat was my kind of sportscaster. He gave you the essential information without all the gasbaggery. He was such a pleasant contrast to his long-time on-air partner John Madden.

    ... especially when one considers what passes for sportscasting nowadays. I liked his broadcasts with John Madden. They were an odd couple at first glance, yet they had good chemistry and complemented one another.

    It happens to me with both IE and Firefox.  And it does seem to be worse with recent postings.  I think, though I need to pay closer attention, that Open Threads seem to be the problem.  Greatest problem?  After a day or two then the tag starts showing up.

    this problem. I emailed her last week She could not duplicate the problem so she referred me to the TL web guy. I emailed with him a few times and give him all the info I had about this problem.

    One thing I'd ask those impacted by this issuer to do is disable the various plugins they have running in their browser. Of particular note are for example FasterFox for firefox and FastestChrome for Chrome. Each of these plugins are specifically designed to prefetch pages and cache pages more aggressively than would otherwise be appropriate, so could precent you from seeing 'new' comment indicators, to the extent that pages are loaded and potentially refreshed without being visible to the user. The way the site tracks new comments on a per user basis is to say "How many comments were on this page the last time this user loaded it?" then "how many comments are there now?" The differential found here indicates which comments are marked new but if the page is refreshed in a way not visible to the user as these and other 'browsing performance plugins" seek to do, then the resulting behavior might manifest in new comment markers not being visible, simply because the page was refreshed multiple times outside the view of the user behind the given browser session.
    Both Chrome and Firefox have the option to disable all plugins, for purposes of debugging issues potentially caused by plugins, so I'd ask that you to try this. In Firefox, the option is to restart the browser (not windows) in safe mode meaning with all plugins disabled. In chrome, you can view the site using an Incognito window, which should effectively disable all plugins unless you've explicitly configured it to do otherwise.
    I'm not able to reproduce this issue in nay browser, on any platform, using any combination of plugins tested thus far, so please report back any combination of browser, platform and plugins, especially if you've also encountered another combination where the new comments markers are showing up for you.
    The behavior is almost certainly a cache issue but the challenge here is working out exactly where the issue occurs, and what commonality exists between effected site visitrors, so I can develop a solution to the problem.

    Speaking for myself, when I run in Firefox the only add-on running is Norton vulnerability protection.  That should be slowing it down, not speeding it up.

    That algorithm doesn't sound complete. Before this problem started occurring, deleted comments would affect comment count and yet the [new] tag would still show up appropriately. I had always thought that date/time was factored in or that it kept track of the highest comment number.

    I can say, that once the post has been around awhile the indicator starts showing up.  Mostly.  This problem is the the worst in open threads that are usually very dynamic.

    As for platform it happens in XP running IE (I'd tell you the version but it takes a long time to power up that old laptop), and Windows 7 running IE9 or Firefox 17.0.1.

    Oh, and I am on Eastern time.

    I am also curious about who isn't experiencing the problem.

    Anyway, thanks again for continuing to work this problem.

    But I have been having another problem in open threads where the comments exceed about 100 -- they start showing up in black with white text towards the bottom of the thread. But when I click on the indivual comment that appears in black in the thread, it shows normally.

    I'm not using any different add-ons than i've ever used, although Firefox is now on version 20.

    I hope you will all provide info to Colin, since I don't understand this stuff at all.

    this documentary today called the Queen of Versailles. It's about the time share king (I forget his name) whose wife was/is building the largest house in the country.

    This guy actually polled his employees finding out who was voting for George W. Bush and put negative articles in his employee's paycheck about Al Gore. He is claiming that he is the one that got Bush in the white house. And then it talks about how his empire collapsed in the fall of 2008. He also was the one telling his employees last fall that he was going to fire them if they voted for Obama.

    The house sits still unfinished near here someplace, while he plots his comeback. Watching that film was a lesson to me on how rich people can be in arrears on debt for years with no consequences, but god forbid I get behind on my visa payment.

    Documents acquired by The Associated Press Tuesday say Jenny Sanford confronted her ex-husband leaving her South Carolina home on Feb. 3. Her attorney filed a trespassing complaint the next day and she confirms the documents are authentic.

    In them, she says he was using his cellphone as a flashlight as he left.

    The couple's divorce settlement says neither may enter the other's home without permission.

    PPP's first look at the special election in South Carolina's 1st Congressional District finds a toss up race. Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch leads Republican Mark Sanford 47-45

    A recent internal Sanford poll has Sanford up by about 5. It's been a GOP district since 1981. I think it will come down to whether Republican women think Sanford is just too creepy. My guess is it's going to be far closer than people think.

    I've been frazzled at work lately and not able to  be online much. My only unusual thought on world events was thinking that Kerry as SoS reminds me a little of Kissinger....seem to be seeing the beginnings of Shuttle Diplomacy II. Would not surprise me if Kerry internalized Henry the K's methods while he was engrossed in fighting the Vietnam Nam war. Just a random thought. YMMV.

    I'll never forget my first visit to Disney World, I was 7 or 8.  Typical McArab Family Vacation style, pops comes home from work with half a bag on and says "We're going to Disney World, hurry up and pack plane leaves in 2 hours."

    Pops wakes up in Orlando with a wicked hangover and little recollection of traveling to Orlando, we head to Disney World and first things first pops goes looking for a beer...well, you know how that turned out.  One man's Magic Kingdom is another man's living hell...he never forgave Mickey, and we never returned;)

This led me to re-watch her first doc, about her friends in education/social work in Egypt just prior to the Arab Spring.     For the top cops in the US they sure don't seem to understand the modern media.  One would struggle to find a national story in which facts were verified before print.

    I wonder sometimes, how many 'inside sources' are actually the imaginations of the 'reporter'.  How hard is it to validate if someone was arrested, and even if you get it wrong, doesn't matter because everyone is flocking to your website to get the 'facts' on the scoop.

    Of course, CNN is still an improvement over the NY Post that reported 12 people died and a Saudi National was being held.

    The problem was that CNN reported it and then some of them ran with CNN is saying blah, blah, blah. NBC News at least did it correctly.

    heartwarming news, but I fail to see what is so shocking...you can buy meth online and that is totally prohibited, never mind guns.

    That said, I like to see issues resolved, and while I feel strongly about the issue, I also tend to choose my words wisely and carefully whenever I sense an opportunity to get people on the opposing side to listen to reason. It's hard to resolve anything politically when incindiary rhetoric burns the bridges.

    As the late Hawaii Gov. John Burns once quipped, "Any goddamned fool can draw a line in the sand -- and who am I to argue with one?"

    One can no more prove that God does not exist, than vice versa. That's why it's called "faith," because it's a belief which is held in the absence of evidence to support it.

    More to the point, political dialogue is only constructive when it's conducted in an atmosphere of mutual respect. To wit, when I call someone a "yahoo" -- or worse -- it's because I don't plan on engaging him in any meaningful way, other than perhaps shoving him roughly aside for retarding the scene.

    Using other people's money to indoctrinate kids into their belief system under the pretense of education is wrong and it should be called out at every opportunity.  It's not about what they believe, its about them using educations system to push their beliefs.  I don't care if they believe 2+3 is 8, just don't don't call it math and insist kids must learn both answers, 8 and 5.

    If this had nothing to do with religion and some idiot was claiming that gravity was a shame, that invisible beings pushed down on stuff and that's why it falls, everyone would be calling them Yahoos.  But someone brings god into the picture and that means and we have to respectful of their beliefs, no matter how ridiculous they are.

    The biggest losers, as always, will be the American people, particularly the poor and the ever dwindling middle class.
