In addition, the bill includes $799 million for various Air and Marine patrol efforts on the U.S. border....The bill provides $68 million for CBP’s National Targeting Center – an increase of $16 million over fiscal year 2012 – to enhance the identification of known and suspected terrorists and criminals.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) – $5.4 billion

The bill also provides $138 million to complete the deployment of the Secure Communities program, and $2.8 billion for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, providing a total of 34,000 beds – maintaining the highest detention capacity in history. (my emphasis)

The bill also prohibits funds for the ICE Public Advocate.

down here with all their branny new go fast boats with four 350 horsepower outboard motors speeding around to protect us from the Cuban Communists that float over on inner tubes.I don't really think they can go four times faster but they do burn four times more fuel.  Very stupid and they scare fish too.

on everything down in the lower keys.  It's called an Aerostat balloon that's tethered to a big truck and carries all kinds of surveillance equipment.  There are 50 of them along our borders with a few in the Caribbean.  The first was Fat Albert down in Cudjoe Key 23 miles from Key West and was set up in 1980.  The Airforce used to manage them but have since turned them over to HLS.  Fatso is at the end of blimp road and there is a boat launch there so I've seen it many times being lowered so different alphabet agencies could switch out their equipment.  God forbid they should co=operate.  They used to bring it down every night so that's when smugglers of all kinds would go active.  Even lobster and cigarette runners zooming in all directions.  Now it's lit up and going 24/7.  HLS seems to be in a race with the DEA in a spending spree.  The torture never stops.

Security's moneys worth today in Key West.  An anthrax scare at our US Post Office has brought law officials of all stripes and stars to our environs.   Don't know much more about it and probably no one else does at this point.--could be someone going postal or something else.  Pity the poor customers in the Post Office at the time who are all quarantined--not a great place to spend the weekend by anyone's lights.  But, hopefully, just a scare not anything more.

According to the local paper, the anthrax letter send to the US Post Office  came from an inmate of a Maryland prison and was a hoax.  Further tests of the material are being tested to be certain.  About 20 people were decontaminated by hazmat crews and taken to Lower Keys Hospital and eventually released.
