Last 2 spots in in Champions League semis filled today. I like Barcelona -1½ over Paris Saint-Germain (5 units) (and to advance to the semis) and Juventus -½ (+190) over Bayern Munich (Bayern to advance to the semis). (I have Dortmund to win it all at 8-1 (made the investment before they advanced to the semis.))

    Drones That Can Detect Guns (5.00 / 4) (#2)

    ELGIN, Oklahoma
    A government report reveals testing in Oklahoma of drones with sensors that can find people and even tell if you are carrying a weapon. It's happening at a remote site near Fort Sill.

    The publication Homeland Security Today says the testing is taking place at the Oklahoma Training Center for Unmanned Systems operated by Oklahoma State University. The group doing the work is "a trusted agent" of the federal government.

    "I'd like to own one"...did you mail order the x-ray glasses out of the back of a comic book too oculus?

    I have less than zero desire to start scanning my neighbors, or be scanned by them...what's under their clothes is their business.

    Unless of course certain female neighbors choose to make it my business, and then that's all done manually;)

    ...they are called remote controlled drones.

    The cameras transmit the video to your phone, or tablet, which is also uses to control it.  

    Even the Apple Store has them.

    ...a screenplay with a friend who is not primarily a writer.

    My buddy is a sort of savant, makes lots of money in a lot of different ways, he's probably created the next huge worldwide gameshow (been negotiating the deal with Sony for more than a year), we wrote some comedy together before, but a straight full-length screenplay is another matter. Just as an example, when it's time for me to polish up a draft, he will always start reading it before I'm done and take issue with something. Which will bog us down in a debate, delaying the draft, lather, rinse, repeat.  The idea is good, but it's drowning in a sea of endless tinkering and writers ready to strangle each other.  This thing is losing me sleep by the hour. I look like four sacks of sh*t. Not three. Four. Full sacks, too.  Thankfully it's outta my life for awhile in a few hours. But knowing my buddy, he'll sell it and we'll get in a monumental battle over money.

    Just kidding, we worked all that out.

    I think.

    He and his wife's play, STONEFACE, about silent film star Buster Keaton, won big at the LA Weekly Awards. And it's moving to the Pasadena Playhouse next for this upcoming season. I remember when French was working for Kaiser Permanente, along with another friend of mine, in their traveling sort of health/hygiene play, then another about HIV. About 20 years ago, right before he got big on TV (3rd Rock from the Sun), he did a reading of a one-man show I wrote, at The CAST Theatre in the shadow of Paramount studios on El Centro in Hollywood. My dad did plays there when I was a kid, and I'd sat through so many late night hours of rehearsal, desperate to go home with my dad, whom I saw only a few days a month. When French read my play there, in front of an almost entirely female audience, and really rocked it, it was one of the sweetest moments of my life. Can't believe it's so long ago. Oh, and I also remember the theater's Artistic Director telling me how awful she thought the play was. She was the only one who thought so, and the only one who mattered. Old drunk witch that she was. Ha, I can smell her breath to this day. I love people.

    The Gators have a 2014 commitment from the Rivals #22 prospect in the country, and he comes from the heart of Dade County. I can't remember the last time the Gators moved south of the Broward line, and several years ago they couldn't get south of the Palm Beach line.

    The Hurricanes have to be pissed. The Gators may have finally tapped into a treasure trove of future prospects.

    It is pretty funny. A former Hurricane coach once said if they could draw a line above broward county and never lose a good player from this area they'd always be competitive without ever recruiting anywhere else in the country. And for awhile it worked.

    To have an inner city Miami player go to Gainesville, why that has to burn a few people on the UM campus. The Hurricane turf is officially up for grabs.

    ...the American plutocracy is actually a stupid plutocracy. First, it is overreaching. Far better to leave a few goodies on the table for the 99% and even a few crumbs for the 47% than to risk generating resentment and retaliation. Since the financial meltdown, financial and business interests have been unable to resist picking the pockets of the weak. Fishing out the small change in the wake of grand larceny is rubbing salt into wounds.  Why fight a small rise in the minimum wage? Why ruthlessly exploit all those temps and part-timers who have so little in the way of economic power anyway? Why squeeze every last buck from the small depositors and credit card holders whom you already systematically fleece? In the broad perspective, that sort of behavior is stupid.
