Here's Beyonce at a news conference the other day, singing the Star Spangled Banner live. Just amazing. I'm really looking forward to her half-time performance today.

Beyonce's performance today is expected to start around 8:15 pm ET and last around 30 to 35 minutes.

President Obama is ready for the Superbowl (Posted on Twitter by the White House.)

    Say at the very outset - "Hey - it's cold and the sound system outside at the Capitol sucks, so yes, I lip synched."

    All the mystery and drama for 2 weeks - "Did she or didn't she?", articles were written about it, handwringing and pearl clutching happened - all for something that meant nothing.

    She's got an amazing voice, as she demonstrated here and countless times, and what is the shame in everyone knowing that she lip synched at the inauguration?  All it did was make a story for 2 weeks that should have lasted for 5 minutes.

    Of course, the cynic in me says that no press is bad press and since Beyonce announced a new album and tour coming out this spring, this was an opportunity to keep everyone talking about her.

    flap over whether or not President Obama had ever fired a gun, but it's just another example of a made-up "issue" that our media creates to take the focus off real issues.  Who cares if it was live or Memorex?  And why should it matter either way?

    gasoline has jumped .30 cents @ gallon in less than a week.. something that hurts every Joe and Jane in the country...

    over the last year or so. The fluctuation has been both up and down. We had a low here in St. Louis within the last month or so of 2.959. To put this into perspective the average gas price in the US one year ago today was 3.437 and today it was 3.484. In St. Louis the price is up .02 over what it was at the same time last year.

    for Jim and his comment, "and not a word." I believe he was expressing his anger at the Right Wing in Congress, Rush Limbaugh, and Fox News for their anti-American stance in blocking research for alternate energy sources. Everyone knows that petro chemical energy sources pollute the environment, and hold us hostage to Middle East America-haters.

    I don't always agree with Jim, but here, nothing but kudos!

    I didn't think of that. I bet he is also expressing his anger that the press does not spend more time attacking Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell who wants to eliminate the state's gas tax and replace it with annual fees on energy efficient hybrid and electric cars.

    I paid 2.44 in metro Denver at major brand. Didnt hear any words about that either. 2.86 Saturday. and it's posted at 3.09 today.  It's what they do.
    I do miss having a CITGO pump in the area.  7/11 ditched them a few years ago because of Venezuela ownership...

    it was hovering around $3 (for 87 octane) the Baltimore area which was a drop of about $.25 - $.30 per gal.  Now it is back up around $3.30 - $3.35 (when I got gas).

    So if Jim were speaking about this area, he would be absolutely correct in his statements that gas went up about $.30 per gallon.  But it would be deceptive because he didn't mention the $.30 drop in price. I heard more people exclaiming about the drop in price than I heard complaints that it went back to the price where has been hovering for about the past year.

    I didn't know about CITGO and 7-11 so you sent me to the internets and I found this:

    7-Eleven's supply switch was actually in the works long before President Chavez spoke last week. The company sought bids for a new supplier of gasoline in October of 2004, and lined up at least one replacement more than a month ago.

    So apparently the reason for the change was multi-faceted.  Did your 7-11s also get rid of the pumps?

    As for jim, his remarks about gas prices (a big issue for him, I know) would be more believable if he posted the actual prices for his location instead of a comment when prices fluctuate up.

    Gas rose in Massachussets - 14 cents in one week.

    Average price is now $3.60 per gallon.

    The average price in Massachusetts is seven cents higher than the national average and 10 cents higher that the average price in the state a year ago.

    It is not unusual here for the prices to go up .10 - .20 overnight but then drop back down (at times to even lower levels) over the next couple of days or weeks.

    It's not like SF had played 58 minutes of sterling football: they had two turnovers, couldn't cover the Ravens receivers, had two chances in the red zone and had to settle for field goals.  Randy Moss didn't come to play.  They were outcoached.

    singing anthems for the very reasons that Beyonce had to lip synch in the first place.  They don't have the voice or the training to do it with out perfect conditions.  I didn't think she sounded great live or recorded.  Give me Jessye Norman anytime.  Plus, honestly, I am sick of all the vocal gymnastics.  
    Not all actors can do Hamlet.  Not all dancers can dance the Black Swan.  Not all singers can sing the National Anthem.

    Like it's A-OK now that Beyonce didn't lip sync, she just sang along.  If you can't do it live, don't do it.  The weather and schedule were know far ahead, so far they actually had time to record a sing along mix.

    It's insulting for someone that talented to act like they are doing something, they aren't.  Then to find out their egos are SD fantastically huge that somehow their actual voice not sounding live, the way it does in a studio, is reason enough to go into the studio and record a sing along track to ensure their image doesn't take a ding because of reality.

    I can't figure out what the deal is. Do they never play big shows in stadiums? Even if they don't, most of the audience has been to a stadium show or two. You don't expect or even want the song to sound just like the record.  I'd love some genuine emotion and singing from these divas, enough with the slick stuff.

    Half of them really can't sing worth sh*t, so they smother their recordings in auto-tune while in the studio (which just sounds terrible anyway). Then they cover up for the fact that they can't sing when they do live shows. See: Justin Bubblehead Beiber, who threw up while on stage and yet...his singing voice was still piping through the speakers. Beyonce CAN actually sing, quite well, but her agents, producers, whomever, decides the artifice is more important than the infinitesimal chance she will have to cough, sneeze, or will accidentally hit a wrong note while doing the live performance -- it's the Superbowl! There are millions of dollars involved! Get with the program!

    In my opinion, these people are all frauds. They are not creative artists, they are bankrolled celebrities. Big difference.

    defense cuts would be a good thing.

    Employees at the Defense Intelligence Agency, which coordinates intelligence for the Department of Defense, received a presentation last week which included fashion advice for women like, "don't be a plain Jane" and "paint your nails," U.S. News reports. The presentation came the same week that DoD announced that women would be allowed in combat positions.

    The presentation was prepared by an employee of DIA and offered gender-specific fashion advice in order to dress for success. A spokeswoman for DIA said the presentation was not condoned by DIA leadership and said in a statement that it was "inappropriate." link

    The defense budget is bloated if it can waste money on presentations like this. Cut crap like this and not health benefits to veterans.
