Adam Lanza Motive Still Unknown

The CT state police yesterday released 7,000 pages of reports and exhibits in its investigation of Adam Lanza and the Sandy Hook shootings. His medical reports are not included (as opposed to a description of his treatment and recollections of some of his treatment providers made after the shootings). A lot of other material pertaining to the victims and interviews of witnesses is redacted. The reports don't reveal what caused him to go on the killing rampage, and unlike the media, the police don't speculate.

What rational motive could he possibly have had? (none / 0) (#1)

I don't understand what we're looking for. This was a mentally ill kid who was failed by those who were supposed to care for him. And their failures impacted many other lives in a terrible way. And this is what the brutality mortal existence breaks down to sometimes. When this occurs, we do the best we can to deal with a situation that is both tragic and inexcusable. And so we try to get better. Or we should anyway. Just my humble opinion.

    Peace.

From an AP news article at wtsp.com:

A former teacher of Lanza's was quoted as telling investigators that he exhibited antisocial behavior, rarely interacted with other students and obsessed in writings "about battles, destruction and war."

"In all my years of experience, I have known (redacted) grade boys to talk about things like this, but Adam's level of violence was disturbing," the teacher told investigators. The teacher added: "Adam's creative writing was so graphic that it could not be shared."

Prosecutors previously issued a summary of the investigation last month that portrayed Lanza as obsessed with mass murders. The documents released Friday also indicated Lanza was interested in mass killings, played violent video games and had books that dealt with death.

Maybe the motive isn't apparent, but warning signs were present.

There could be a motive staring us right in the face.

    From Syracuse.com: (emphasis added)

Adam had attended Sandy Hook Elementary. In fifth grade, he turned in a cute [?!] story about a "chicken tree" whose hen fruit "contains everything you ever will need to live like calcium and water."

"It spits out seeds every four hours by using its long chute," ... "The vines that holds the chicken is very soft and very strong."

One undated poem contained in the police files is titled, "No frogs, No kids":

    "Too many ants are coming.

    Ants over populate.

    Ants dig dirt.

    dirt grows plants.

    Bees come to plants.

    Cock Robin died.

    Bees die.

    ants feed bees to babies.

    Ants will overtake to win.

    One baby died.

    3 eggs won't hatch.

    one bird has no voice."

Among the documents investigators found on Lanza's computer was one titled "pbear" that investigators described as "advocating pedophiles' rights and the liberation of children." Another, called "Lovebound," was a screenplay describing a relationship between a 10-year-old boy and a 30-year-old man.

    Pretty revealing, IMO.

which psychotropic drugs Adam Lanza was being prescribed?  I'm very interesting to know what he was taking when he decided to go on a murderous rampage.

Years ago he was prescribed the mild anti-depressant Celexa but his mother stopped it pretty quick because he was unable to raise his arm and she thought that was the reason. The doctor tried to assure her it wasn't, to no avail.

He had no drugs or alcohol in his system, and didn't use either one.

The Real Question Remains (none / 0) (#8)

What is the real value to society to allow members of a household possession of the arsenal Adam had at his disposal?  There always have been crazy people.  Modern technology magnifies their ability to harm others.

would be improved by having nuts use bombs, or many other nasty lethal options. Wedge the doors shut and dump a gallon of bleach and gallon of ammonia.
