Duke Lacrosse Accuser Convicted of Murder

Crystal Mangum, who falsely accused the Duke Lacrosse players of sexual assault, has been convicted of second degree murder in the stabbing death of her boyfriend. The judge sentenced her to 14 to 18 years in prison.

Mangum testified at her trial and claimed self-defense. The victim, who lived for 10 days after she stabbed him, told investigators before he died that he had been trying to get away from her.

She testified he beat her that night, but "she was unable to explain why paramedics who checked her out after her arrest found no evidence that she had been beaten or choked." Also, "blood drops were on the carpet in the hallway where Daye said she stabbed him, but not in the master bedroom where Mangum said she stabbed him. [More...]

She "similarly" attacked another boyfriend in 2010. He testified in the current trial:

Walker testified that during a fight, Mangum attacked him with a chair and a step stool, slashed his tires, smashed his windshield and lunged over an officer while screaming she wanted to stab and kill him.

Her attorney said it was Magnum's decision to testify. He wouldn't say whether he agreed with the decision.

Mangum and Duke Lacrosse, so no, not in this thread. You can talk about GZ's charges if you want in an open thread, but you can't presume him guilty. Magnum has been convicted. GZ's personal life is of no interest to me.

Since there seems to be little chance of a dedicated thread for it on TalkLeft itself, how about here

What about those knives? (none / 0) (#5)

    According to the NewsObserver story:

Mangum took the stand in her own defense and said it was Daye who attacked her with knives by throwing them at her.

    and

Photos of the apartment showed kitchen steak knives scattered throughout the apartment.

I wonder if there were fingerprints on those knives that would indicate that they'd recently been held in a manner consistant with "knife throwing".  I'd think that would leave a different fingerprint/smudge pattern than when someone uses a knife to slice something.
