Bruce Springsteen celebrated his 63rd birthday last night with a concert in New Jersey. His daughter Jessica is in Europe. She just bought the horse that won Great Britain an Olympic gold medal in show jumping. She didn't make the US team for London, but is going to try again for 2016.

The Emmys are early tonight, I already missed the first hour. I hope Breaking Bad wins some. (Update: Aaron Paul just won best supporting actor for Jesse! I wish there were two awards, so Gus could win too. Hopefully this bodes well for Bryan Cranston. )

    Hope y'all are well, I've been busy :-P... but still alive and kicking. Insurance cancelled again, but a new policy, not as good but cheaper, so thank Dog or Yog-Sosoth.

    Good news about the "still alive and kicking". Cr@p news about your insurance getting cancelled again, but glad you found a new, albeit not as good, policy.

     I hope that "alive and kicking" means that the cancer is gone or at least going and that good health is on its way to you.

    Buddhists don't pray, but you are in my thoughts every day, mi compadre. I send some of each day's good energy down your way.

    Aryan Nation. No kidding. Twelve morons, scores of cops, and hundreds of counter-protesters. I don't like the Democratic fascists either, but they are a little easier to take when you've just witnessed a dozen skinheads parade down your street.

    Wish he had gotten best comedy series too. I don't get the big deal about ModernFamily. Have tried to watch it but....oh well. I never loved Raymond either. Maybe I just can't relate to family life anymore.

    Had lunch at Gott's in the Ferry Building, then hiked up the Filbert St. stairs to Coit Tower, where we were welcomed by the quintessential SF view: The Golden Gate Bridge in the process of being enveloped by fog.  Earlier, back at the Embarcadero BART station, we'd seen another typical SF view, that of several scantily clad characters on their way to someplace sinfully happy, and I then remembered it was Folsom Street Fair Weekend.  Leather folks in heaven (link).

    One of my first experiences when I moved to SF many years ago was the Folsom Street Fair.  It was an eye-opener, I loved it! Having moved back east, what I miss most is the sense of freedom in SF, to be whomever you would like to be.

    ... as I'll be working across the Bay in Walnut Creek for the next three days. So save some decent weather for me.

    The Spouse is taking Friday off and will be flying in on Thursday night, so we can spend an extended weekend together in our favorite city. The airfares really fell this month by about 45%, and it's now only $333 R/T between HNL and SFO on Hawaiian Airlines, so we're taking advantage of it. We have to fly back seperately though, as I booked my own flights in and out of OAK well before the fares dropped.

    ... out of Oakland or San Jose. They go nonstop to Kona from both, and they're generally cheaper than United Airlines' nonstop service out of SFO. If you fly Hawaiian out of SFO, you'll have to connect to another flight in Honolulu to get to the Big Island.

    was in the making today because I got called late this afternoon. Straightforward questions about President and Senator with no bias in them, but wouldn't tell me who they were polling for.

    Romney TV ads in Florida are a little strange right now. They have Marco Rubio talking, effectively telling younger people they have to give up Medicare in their future so their grandparents can have it now. Not sure that will play to anyone.

    Romney's 47% comment cost him my father's vote. He was in a "vote the bums out" mode, but having been in WWII and now on Social Security he was a bit offended being called a moocher.

Now the Republicans are telling me that iff they regain control of D.C., all I'm getting from them is a $6,000 voucher while they get another round of high-end tax cuts? Phuque that!

    The first showing, which was live at 5 PM, is being immediately followed by a taped re-showing of the entire program. I have no idea why. Maybe ABC just didn't feel like finding any programming to fill out the rest of the evening.

    Mountain time is only 1 hour ahead of us in the Pacific Time Zone. So maybe the show is running twice for you, too. If so, you could catch the parts you missed.

    Not so great a loss for Bill Belichick, who put his hands on an official after the game, following a disputed field goal to end it.  He should see a fine and suspension.  Dope.

    one I didn't see because I made a decision to turn the game off in the 4th quarter after the Ravens went for it on 4th-and-1 and didn't make it.  These Sunday night games just get me too jacked up to get a decent night's sleep, so I figured, well, what will be will be and I'll check it out in the morning.

    Imagine my surprise to see that not only did the Ravens win, but that they did it in nail-biting fashion - making me have no regrets about going to bed - I'd never have been able to get to sleep after that kind of ending!

    Now, we have another game just 4 nights from now - granted, it's the Browns, but I think there's always the emotional letdown after a win like this one, and it's a short week.  And, after years of being known for their defense, Baltimore isn't the juggernaut it used to be - and it shows.

    One thing I know for sure: the league has to suck it up and get the regular officials back on the field; these replacements are just awful - no, they're worse than awful - and it's affecting the games.

    I like the show a lot but not as much as I like most of the other nominees. Tough selection to make there.

    Damian Lewis is so good though that I can't argue for Cranston or Hamm over him.  Claire Danes is overhyped in my book, in every sense of the word.

    My favorite win was Aaron Paul. He could have won in the best actor category too and I would have been fine with that. He was even wonderful on the red carpet. That voice, those eyes....
