CBS News' Steve Kroft asked President Obama to respond to Mitt Romney's criticism of the Administration regarding the Libya situation, The President's response:

    as I was reminded just this week, when he was in contact with our family again with kind comments upon the death of a family member, his first -- and, he said, his best -- boss, who trained him as a journalist, when they served in Vietnam.

    I can vouch that the guy named Kroft is a great guy as well as a great journalist.

    Is it almost every day now that Mr. Romney utters or declares something that causes the jaw to drop!  Even politico-me blanches at the ignorant statement he made last night--before the Libyan attack on the embassy, before the facts started to come in--seemingly driven only by fantasy of political advantage.  BTW, he now shows that he can't discern even that.  Clue to Romney:  Patience, boy...When you're chomping to attack the prey, listen first & think...and, at least wait until an "action" has occurred.  At least, be honorable enough to await the return of the Ambassador's body and the bodies of the other loyal American embassy staff.

    Frankly, Romney doesn't reach amateur status on foreign policy.  The "good will" trip to London & Europe during the Olympics was merely a preview.  With this kind of failure that Romney exhibited today, we are looking at someone clearly unfit to be Commander in Chief.  In fact, he seems to be running now for Lackey in Chief tom the neo-con warmongers who never saw a war they didn't embrace.

    When I return, my comments might reflect the uplifting spirits of fine (or not so fine) wine  spirits.

    It could turn out to be one of the defining moments of the 2012 election, one that again exposed Romney's lack of foreign policy experience. It may have done him more damage than all the millions of spent on negative campaign ads over the last two months by the Obama campaign.

    Many senior Republicans greeted the renewed attack with horror, briefing reporters that Romney had made a catastrophic error of judgment that could have fatal consequences for his election campaign.

    as this is a day for me without time to scan the foreign press, even the Guardian, to see that it wisely agrees with BTD.

    Romney is soooo not ready for that 3 a.m. call.  We would want to unplug the phone every night to be sure that he would not take us to war by taking a bad situation and making it so much worse.

    ststement last night sounded just like something Dan Senor would advise. He is so brainless and always seems to think he is such a social media maven I can see him pushing to respond to the tweets immediately with little to no information.

    re: the lack of respect.  Somewhere around mid-afternoon I felt all my frustration build into a "screw this whole thing" moment.  Patriotic Americans and intelligent, wise public servants with families died.  Nothing is more offensive than someone talking heedlessly about other bs compared to that.  Even if you don't feel grief, respect that of others.  Show some humanity.

    Romney was rightfully called out for what he said.  We could've spent the day reflecting on these people who gave their lives, the remarks of Sec. Clinton and Pres. Obama, and other people in the State Dept affected personally by this matter.  He could've said something respectful and shut up and even if he thinks X or Y about the State Dept TWITTER bring it up another day.

    This is a shameful day in our country's political discourse.  Truly, just shocking.  And not to try to score points for my opinion one way or another which invariably people may interpret me doing, anyway, but so it goes, I recently - and for the first time - lost someone close to me, a friend.  Boy, grief sucks.  I never understood it before quite like I do now, and the one thing I am glad to have had is the respect and understanding of others to care for fellow grievers, to sort this out in my own time and way, to try to figure out how to honor the passed.  I'm doing allright and we're all coming out of the state of shock but, man, anyone who would've tried to fast forward me through those first few days would've gotten (and almost did) a sock to the face.  And it would've been deserved.  And it saddens me that we didn't get the opportunity to reflect and learn about with some measure of solemnity the lives of those who passed today.  That's just not right.  And I hope one day Romney and whatever addled advisers pushed him in this direction realize that.

    I was able to learn about who he was. And see the respect for him. I hope other 'outlets' pick up the real story. The fraternity showed up in suits with ties for the candle light. He was working on an Ed Center there with UCB, and they plan on moving forward. Just a couple of 'tidbits'.

    Jim's remark was just a gutter remark, imo. And in total disrespect.

    And yes, I totally got who you were thinking of.

    How sad it is to see JM slowly be consumed by the Fox Kool Aid, he barely makes sense anymore.  But it nice to know he and Mitt will someday reminisce over how the fanatical right killed their presidential hopes and dreams.

    was being paid to sabotage his own campaign. Or maybe the real Romney was replaced with a space alien just trying to act human and not quiet getting it right.  The first clue was when he insulted the cookies from a local bakery and wouldn't eat them. He is an amazing clod.

    Even if I agreed with all of his positions on the issues I hope I would still see he is the worst candidate ever. And yet - best of the clown car full of loons the GOP put up this year. Amazing.
