The Daily Rush: Radio Station Drops Rush

Update: KPUA radio station in Hawaii has dropped Rush Limbaugh's radio show. One down, 599 to go.

We are strong believers in the first amendment and have recognized Mr. Limbaugh's right to express opinions that often times differ from our own, but it has never been our goal to allow our station to be used for personal attacks and intolerance. The most recent incident has crossed a line of decency and a standard that we expect of programming on KPUA whether it is locally produced or a syndicated program like the Rush Limbaugh show.
Make that 598, WBEC in Pittsfield, MA has dropped him. On the advertiser side, add Allstate and Sensa Weight Loss Systems and Tax Resolutions Systems. [More...]

Don Imus blasts Limbaugh as insincere and gutless. Video at HuffPo here.

Rush Limbaugh is still in the news. Clear Channel and Premiere Networks express their continuing support for him. The Armed Forces Radio Network says it won't drop him.

AOL, on the other hand, has suspended ads on his show.

As for Rush, he says his apology was sincere. And he doesn't care about advertisers leaving, he says he has plenty more where they came from.

In other words, a sucker is incorporated every minute.  Your wasting your money advertisers!

Then again, upon further thought, I'm probably projecting my general anti-consumerism onto the dittohead audience...if there ever was an audience susceptible to advertising, it is that crowd;)

This is the second time that there has been a big social push for Rush Limbaugh to removed from Armed Forces Radio and I think this time he is done.  And Cenk is demanding that he actually prove he has the listener number that he claims.  I don't see Rush coming out of this well.  Not this time.  Particularly if he loses his AFR slot, because female soldiers want him gone and they truly have a beef that needs to be addressed.  I think he is done.

And I don't think that Rush should be able to count every soldier and sailor in uniform in this head count either.  Those guys and gals are a captive audience.

And Rush's further apologies have seemingly enraged the standard RedState commenter from what I read.

Florida News Blackout on Limbaugh? (none / 0) (#38)
by shoephone on Tue Mar 06, 2012 at 01:56:50 AM EST
This is purely anecdotal, based on an internet search I just did on major newpaper websites in Florida: The St. Petersburg Times, Miami Herald, Orlando Sentinel, and West Palm Beach News. NONE of these news sites has any article "above the fold" (meaning anywhere in the top half of the page) on the Limbaugh firestorm. And only on two of the sites--the West Palm Beach site and the St. Petersburg site--is there anything at all, and then only in the bottom section, practically hidden away so that you really have to be looking for it.

As we know, Limbaugh lives in and broadcasts from West Palm Beach. Based on the fact that every other major news site I've seen today is featuring stories on this right at the top, I surmise that the Florida media sites are blacking out coverage. Who knows if it's because they're being threatened by Limbaugh's henchman, or whether they are already sufficiently terrified of him? But I find it a very suspect and glaring omission in comparison to the rest of the nation's media sites.

    Ya know? (none / 0) (#45)

Here we go again.  Never mind leaving Rush on the air while he has spewed his hateful rhetoric unabated for all these years.  Let's run with a single rude slur and nail him for that.  What a crazy world.  Thousands of hateful, rabid comments go unchallenged while one personal insult does the trick.  It is a chicken sh*t way to do something about a rabid hatemonger, and does more harm than good to the person insulted.

    Re: Recent tornado deaths:
"Their God ... keeps smashing them into little grease spots on the pavement in  Alabama, and Mississippi, and Arkansas, and Georgia, and Oklahoma," Malloy says in his broadcast from Friday. "You know, the Bible belt, where [in a mocking voice] they ain't gonna let no goddamned science get in the way, it says in the Bible, blah blah blah blah blah. So, according to their way of thinking, God with his omnipotent thumb reaches down here and so far tonight has smashed about 20 people into a grease spot on highway 12, or whatever the hell highway they live next to."
