Bad day for me investment wise yesterday. 5-11 ATS (though it was not as bad as that seems as I made a large investment on one of my winners, North Carolina.) More than that, my brackets are busted as 2 of my Final 4 selections, Mizzou and Michigan, were bounced. My bracket is finished. That said, the Gators looked great and had their bracket cleared when Mizzou went down (of course Norfolk may be a monster.)

Games remain to be played. Here are today's picks (bracket winners in bold): Kansas State +4½ over Syracuse(7 units), Gonzaga +7½ over Ohio State (3 units), Murray State +5½ over Marquette (6 units),Vanderbilt -1 over Wisconsin, Va Commonwealth +6 over Indiana (5 units), Kentucky -11 over Iowa State (6 units), Colorado +7½ over Baylor (3 units), New Mexico +1½ over Louiville.

Wow, are the drug companies out of control (5.00 / 3) (#1)

Controlling supply to keep prices up? Morophine is making Josh throw up so listening to staff discuss what to replace it with. Apparently their first choice is not available and on the drug shortages list. You read about it, but it's different when it happens to you. It's like living in a 3rd world country.

Too bad there's not a way to make people like those responsible for the shortage walk a mile in shoes of someone experiencing the kind of pain they are denying treatment for.

If we can get him eating better. He still hasn't eaten much because that halo on his head makes chewing painful he says. Makes sense though, clench your teeth and the fascia muscles tighten all the way to your temples.

i kid you not. or your kid. will at least eliminate the nausea from the available meds. oh wait, we live in Wictorian times. oh wait again, scratch that, even in victorian times cannabis was considered medicinal.

Nausea, but at the same time right out of surgery eating isn't an option. And sadly must be worked up to with that halo on his head.

How about some Ensure? At least it will give Josh some strength.

Re: Morphine: When I had back surgery years ago, the morphine worked fine, but when it was mixed with benedryl to address my allergies, I started saying a lot of gibberish. Scared the __ out of my ex. Long story short, is it the morphine that;s making Josh sick, or is it a combo?

I hope he feels better soon!

It just wasn't working out. We got some pancake in him and they put him oral tab Narco now. He is getting ativan for muscle contractions, so he has been saying some crazy stuff and having crazy dreams which he doesn't like. But we can't really go without the ativan. They are stretching out muscles that have never been stretched before and without it he would be a solid charlie horse. He's doing better on the Narco though and it provides much better longer term pain relief.

All kinds of critical drugs are in short supply. Cancer treatment drugs have been hard hit, too.

There ought to be a law against this kind of manipulation by drug companies. but, this being a market-lovin' nation, no such laws exist.

... for a drug called Pylera to deal with a stomach infection. The pharmacist called to let me know that it was ready, and she also wanted to let me know that it was over $500 (with insurance). I had already read some things about the bad side effects of the drug, so I called my doctor's office to see if there was a substitute. They said Pylera was basically three separate drugs (two antibiotics and the active ingredient in Pepto Bismol) and they could prescribe them separately and it would be a lot less expensive. Turns out, however, that they're not making tetracycline anymore and they couldn't find anymore ... one of the most basic (and cheapest) antibiotics. They gave me a different antibiotic, ...

... total cost for all the meds was $13.

Hmmmmmmmm ....

Hope Josh is doing better. I had morphine for the first time when getting a halo @ 25 years ago and it made me throw up, too.

a small amt. of a drug called Phenergan given with either Demerol or Codeine or MS usually and I do repeat usually enhances the pain med. and also eliminates the nausea. Best of luck to you and your family during this difficult time.

No good, but being in halo traction also causes a lot of anxiety I guess. Even in your sleep you feel trapped. So probably making more stomach acid too. They are changing the shape of his ribcage pretty quickly with the traction too so breathing often hurts, and the drug they are stuck with hiving him now has a very narrow window before it starts to shut down your respiration. They gave him some IV Zantac too but still couldn't get on top of it.

Apparently, the Occupy movement thought of it, too, even before I did. There is an OccupyCampDavid movement on. Protesters are being urged to reserve campsites at Cunningham Falls State Park (more or less across the street from Catoctin Mountain National Park, where Camp David is located). See the story here. And, of course, the #Occupycampdavid hashtag began appearing on Twitter right after the announcement of the move.

Peyton went to my high, Franklin in Seattle - I was having lunch with many of ex-teachers (I never had him) and ALL of them were so happy for his success because he was a real good kid in their classes -

(unlike too many high schoolers who think they're the next fat contract star jock)

... "Norfolk may be a monster." The problem so many in the sports media have in analyzing these games is that they're so busy focusing on the so-called "power conferences" that almost none of them have bothered to watch any of the mid-majors at all.

What scares me about a team like the Spartans is that Missouri did not have a bad game yesterday. In fact, the Tigers were quite good. They shot very well and had only 8 or 9 turnovers the entire game. But Norfolk State matched up surprisingly well with them, step for step, and played like they belonged. They're like VCU last season (and perhaps this year, too). For that reason, I wouldn't discount the Spartans' chances against the Gators.

Just because we don't see the mid-majors on TV doesn't mean that one can naturally assume that these teams aren't good. The teams that are led by seniors, such as Norfolk State, have a lot of experience on their side playing together. And sometimes, that senior experience will win out over the raw talent of freshmen and sophomores.

In the regard, perhaps a so-called "power conference" team like Duke, who's overexposed on TV, might find itself at a distinct disadvantage coping with the talented squad from Lehigh, who've labored in anonymity.

Lehigh no doubt saw the Blue Devils play on TV ad nauseum all season long, while it became very clear very early in yesterday's game that the Blue Devils, their coaches and their fans were probably looking ahead, and never saw Lehigh coming at all.
