5 Guantanamo Detainees Agree to Transfer to Qatar

Afghanistan sent a delegation to Guantanamo to convince 5 detainees to transfer to Qatar. They agreed.

The five, allegedly Taliban leaders, won't be freed but transferred to less restrictive custody and their families will move there to be with them.

One may be Mullah Norullah Noori. Here's his detainee assessment file. Others who may be among the five: Mullah Khair Khowa (reportedly a former interior minister) and Mullah Fazl Akhund (reportedly a former army commander.)

they had to be "convinced" to leave the place?

I thought there was some law handcuffing the president against doing this sort of thing. Or was Obama lying, again?

They had to be convinced to go to another prison.

Why would they move half way around the world a second time, just to go to a prison where they don't know anyone or anything?  I would want to know what the 'catch' was too.

that their families will be able to visit them might be some small motivation. and if Qatar doesn't have the kinds of strong laws against torture that the US observes in Guantanamo, at least someone will hear their screams?
