NZ Police Address MegaUpload Raid

In its February newsletter, the New Zealand Police again attempt to justify the raid on the Kim DotCom mansion and takedown of MegaUpload for the FBI. They say the raid was the culmination of several months of planning.

An OFCANZ (Organised & Financial Crime Agency New Zealand)team of five picked up the case last September and worked intently to meet their goal of a mid-January termination... In related news, everyone's out at the mansion except the fish and their caretaker. But what will happen to the fish when the lease on the mansion ends Wednesday? The fish tank came with the rented house, says the fish caretaker, but there are hundreds of thousands of dollars of fish which Kim DotCom bought and are considered pets. When the electricity is turned off, they will die.

What happens with the lease itself? (none / 0) (#1)

I mean, if the lease expires on Wednesday, will the property owner be able to rent the place out on Thursday?  Or maybe the property categorized as a "crime scene", limiting what the owner can do with it.  If that's the case, the owner would be losing money on the 50+ acre property for who knows how long....

As for the fish, I wonder what happens to fish and other animals that wind up being abandoned in similar situations. (Like guard dogs or race horses for instance.) Maybe the police or similar gov't agencies have a standing relationship between some organization like The Humane Society to take charge of the various beasties in situations like this?
