Hurricane Sandy Concert: 12-12-12

Watching Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi performing Born to Run, it doesn't get any better than that. The Hurricane Sandy concert is 5 hours and judging from the first half hour, it's going to be an incredible show. The Rolling Stones and the Who will also perform, among others. Billy Crystal is hosting and he's funny again. Celebrities are manning the phone banks.

Two billion people world-wide can watch.

All money donated goes to the Robin Hood Relief fund. There's a lot of ways to donate. Here's one. Or you can call 1-855-465-HELP. You can also help by ordering the music from the concert on iTunes. [More...]

Update: What a phenomenal concert. It's just ending now. Truly an amazing feat putting this together.

Here's a picture of the production schedule.

What did Mick Jagger do after the concert? He went home to watch a live British cricket game with his girlfriend, L'Wren Scott. He sent out a goodnight tweet an hour ago, at 12:18 a.m. ET. Here they are last night at Barney's for the party for L'Wren's new perfume. He also did the top ten on Letterman last night, if you missed it you can watch here.

The final Stones concert for this leg of their anniversary tour is Saturday night. Appearing with them: Springsteen, Lady Gaga and the Black Keys. I've already ordered the Pay Per View to watch it live.

If anyone was wondering what Roger Daltry's chest looked liked in 1975, here's a picture.

Who was your favorite tonight? No surprise here, mine were Bon Jovi and the Rolling Stones.

was the message all over Facebook and Twitter -- and he must have heard the word, because he finally did . . . after the zoom shots of his waxed and weirdly orangy-red torso and his cardiac surgery scar.

Google for the Twitter feed for "Roger Daltrey" for comments, the most fun we've had tonight, and that's saying something.  What a show -- and it looks like it's going to keep going 'til 12/13/12.

for a corporate "sponsor" who sponsored the thing anonymously...as it is Chase and the rest didn't "sponsor" sh*t, they bought a commercial to publicize their corporations.  That ain't charity.

All/most of the individual donors donate, and volunteers volunteer, without seeking fanfare or publicity...but not Chase, oh no.  They gotta plaster their Mudd-like name over the whole thing.  Lame.

But other than that minor quibble, what a f*ckin' show!

The Stones are no shrinking violets when it comes to who they'll share the stage with.  I've seen them with Stevie Wonder, BB King, Terry Reid, Charlie Daniels, Chuck Berry, Chaka Khan (Rufus) and that's just off the top of my head.  And I haven't seen them for over 20 years (although I have been to 5 of their concerts).

A look at this list shows that's just a drop in the bucket.

But speaking of back-to-back shows: they must be slowing down some after all this time.  I saw Stevie Wonder in the first of two shows on the same day at the Rolling Stones show at the Coliseum in Denver.

the show to find out -- but I was wondering if anyone knows how the Robin Hood Relief fund will distribute the money -- do victims of Sandy apply for aid? Do representatives of the fund go around to disaster areas and estimate costs for rebuilding and then distribute the money? Will all the money go to individuals who suffered losses or injuries - or will some of it go toward public works that were damaged? Will the money go directly to individuals or to different agencies, governmental or private, to distribute funds?

my impresison was that they fund the different (none / 0) (#57)
