    The majority of Salt Lake City residents are Mormon, but like most other residents of large cities around the country, they tend by and large to be -- for immediate lack of a better term -- more "open-minded" about the ways of the world than their suburban and rural Mormon neighbors.

    Further, and for obvious reasons, non-Mormons living in Utah are most likely to be here than elsewhere in the state, and so Salt Lake City is the one area in Utah where the Democratic Party can actually be competitive.

    But being able to occasionally break 50% at the polls in Salt Lake City, while for the most part getting smoked and skunked everywhere else in Utah, is not a winning hand Democrats on a statewide basis.

    And they go down in our history as hosting the physician that saved Josh's life when he was four.  During that very stressful time we stayed in a hotel downtown, and it was an emotionally unlifting environment.  Can't remember the name of the sushi restaurant, but had originally been an old church.  My husband and I took a moment to attempt to focus on each other and the hospital staff sent us there to eat.  Crazy good sushi for a place so far away from any fishable shoreline.

    A bunch of real snakes running for office for the GOP these days.  I don't know about the polling situation in OH, just that the Rs are trying mightily to suppress the vote.

    It's like Abraham Lincoln once noted -- both sides pray to the same alien overlords, and both sides will invoke the name of the alien overlords, and claim that the alien overlords have blessed their respective cause as truly righteous and just.

    But when the stars are finally written in the wond of time, we don't really know that, do we?

    So, we mustn't just simply assume that the alien overlords are even ON our side, or that our obviously self-serving appeals for their timely and cosmic intervention will even be heard.

    Because honestly, even if the alien overlords are somehow on our side, what's to stop them from suddenly invoking the fickle element of their collectively cosmic whims, and just keep switching sides at the midway point of the neverending confrontation, ad infinitum?

    Because, honestly, the preferred means for decision making of our alien overlords is a mere flipping of a coin -- preferably a 1964 Kennecy half-dollar, because the aural resonance of its near-pure silver alloy does much to greatly sooth the savage breasts of our alien overlords, and they might be inclined to grant you two-out-of-three, should the first toss of the coin not work out in your favor.

    if highly controversial authority that our alien visitors involve at least two different civilizations at this time.  One is very benign with a long, previously very intimate, relationship with this planet.  Currently though they are only in direct contact with one human and have otherwise given up on us -- until about 7-8 centuries from now when they predict human Earthlings will have finally thrown off their religious crutches and become fully self accountable.

    That's right, 7-8 centuries we'll need by their estimation.

    About the other group of visitors monitoring our activities, the first group are somewhat in the dark but suspect they are probably no worse than neutral as to us.

    Well, thats my Saturday afternoon story, and I'm sticking to it.  I mean, if Roswell really happened, why not ...

    1 - Compare to Sagarin, look for inefficiencies.

    2 - Check team histories against each other in conference games (important predictor.)

    3 - Look at respective schedules and injuries (trap game, looking ahead game, rivalry game, etc.)

    4 - Eye ball test (what do I think of the respective teams.

    About 3 and one half hours a week.

    That is called fried ravioli and is not new.  Now beer ravioli might be new, but I doubt it.  Certainly someone tried to make beer ravioli before this.  They must have to freeze the beer to get dough around it.  Isn't it really drippy biting into beer ravioli?

    You are not alone.  I know almost nothing about college football.  I enjoy it primarily as a training ground for future Philadelphia Eagles.  They generally give me enough of a headache on Sundays to last a whole weekend.

    While the final score might hint to someone who didn't see the game that it may have been a close game for the most part, but the game itself won't be -- I like the Beavers by 8.

    I think it'll play out like the UCLA game -- Oregon State will take clear command by halftime or early in the third quarter, and though Utah will close toward the end of the game, anyone watching will note that the outcome is never seriously in doubt.

    I'll take it for my stone cold lock flip a coin and pick anyway I can game of the day... Utah is a 9 point underdog against the 5-0 undefeated Beavers.

    The last time OSU was 5-0 Gone With The Wind premiered in Atlanta. The last time OSU was 6-0 the Chicago Cubs were a dynasty...seriously, it was 1907 and the Cubs won their first of back to back World Series Titles that year.

    Handicapping this game is easy though. I've had a Belgian White Ale at the Rock Bottom Brewery in Portland, saw the spouting horns in Depoe Bay, and spent an afternoon listening to a marimba band at PDX waiting for a flight. I've never been to Utah.

    That makes it no contest. Take Oregon State -9 playing in Reser Stadium tonight.

    played a great game against BYU last week. He was named Pac-12 offensive player of the week. He should do fine against the Utes today.

    Of course, one never wants to take anything in college football for granted. Still, the Beavers are on a bit of a once in a century roll this year. So. . .

    I was frightened until about 3 min left in the 4th.  Utah was able to move the ball on us more than we could on them, but their sloppy play and turnovers killed them.  Cody Vaz was fairly ineffective until the 2nd half when he started finding Wheaton.  I think he is great but I predict Mannion will be back next week.. Vaz just seems a bit short at QB.  Anyway - will take the win.  Have not been 6 & 0 since 1907..  The year our old house was built.

    Kim DotCom has announced that he is building a new file-sharing site called Mega. According to Wired, this new site will work slightly different than MegaUpload but will still let users upload, store, and share data files. DotCom also intends to make it raid-proof.

    Someone please explain it to me!  The only thing I can figure is it has to do somehow with our wonderful republican Governor etc. s/n
    I think with more and more seniors moving down plus Fl. going Democratic last Presidential election ( I believe) it made sense to the Repubs. to create less votes for a Democrat. (I don't know if that makes any sense, but neither do they).

    Selfish seniors. Romney says his medicare plan will only screw those under 55 years of age. Florida has lots of over 55's. The over 55 is the only age group in Florida that's strongly on Romney's side.

    Hopefully seniors start to think about their children and grandchildren, or women in Florida open their eyes.

    that is not on Romney's side. I am definitely over 55. My hubby says it is more of the less educated seniors. I think he has a very valid point. I don't believe most seniors over 55 do their homework as they should or are able to do like I do. Many of the seniors in Fl. (I think, at least) can not even speak English, much less read it or use computers. They are ignorant of who the "real Romney" or for that matter the "real rick Scott" is.     how difficult it is to change somebody's mind once they've made a decision, but here's something you could try, and it has the added advantage of also being true.

    The difference between the Republican's position on SS and the Democrat's is not simply exempting those over 55 from the chopping block. It's one of direction, agenda, and ultimate objective. It's really quite simple. We know the Republicans want to not only cut SS and Medicare/Medicaid, they want to eliminate them altogether. Do your friends think that, once attaining power, Romney won't be spending every waking minute scheming how to wipe out all so-called entitlements? Are they going to gamble their remaining years on Mitt Romney's word?

    I hate teams with their own special network contracts, and I just got through reading how some high ranking Vatican officials plotted to murder Pope John I in 1978 -- yes I believe that happened.  

    As for Mormons, you know my feelings about Mr Etch A Sketch.  That goes for the rest of that overfed and overenriched church, whose massive towering WLA church I once lived in the shadow of.  

    Mormons I do like are few:  Harry Reid, the Udalls, late historian Fawn Brodie, and Philo T Farnsworth, the true inventor of electronic tv.  Also Steve Young when he was playing for the 49ers and before I learned he was a Republicant.

    This is a great game between two very good teams.

    I expect the Bearcats to come back and win. Their defense has been great, but their offense needs to start playing with some sense of urgency, and the team needs to stop looking like they've been thinking ahead to next week's Big East showdown with No.6 Louisville.

    But the opportunistic Rockets are proving that they're no pushovers, and they can certainly play with anyone. The longer they're hanging around, the greater their chances of stealing this one.

    The top of the MAC ticket -- Ohio, Toledo, and Northern Illinois -- currently have a combined record of 21-2.

    Ohio is undefeated, having opened the 2012 campaign with a decisive 24-14 win at Penn State. Toledo fell that same weekend at Arizona in overtime, 24-17, while NIU dropped a heartbreaker at Iowa, 18-17. Neither has lost since.

    lost to Iowa at Soldier Field which was a "home" game for NIU.  Made a very nice chunk of change while doing so.  

    The Huskies went on to cream Central Michigan back home in delightful DeKalb, a team that had beaten Iowa in Iowa City.

    Today for sure! That game was çrazy, really crazy. Hopefully the outdoor cocktail party here will have better officients.  I have been a Gator fan all of my life and somehow I missed the fact that Steve Spurrier was the one to name the stadium " The Swamp". I think it must have been when we moved to Michigan for a few years.
    Best of luck to all on their teams, as long as they don't interfere with my team from the swamp that according to S.S. only a Gator could survive in. Too bad he didn't want to continue coaching them.

    several times today but ultimately it didn't make any difference.

    As for Spurrier. there is no team I like seeing the Gators beat "less" than a Steve Spurrier coached team. As someone that was in Gainesville before the Gators ever sniffed an SEC Title, I have the utmost respect for him and he'll always be St. Steve to me.

    Coach Muschamp sounded a similar tone after the game today. Spurrier may no longer be the coach of the Gators, but he'll always be a Gator to those who knew what it was like in Gainesville before he arrived.

    Spurrier took over what was already a good Gator program in 1990 and made it great. But it was first Pell and then Hall who transformed a Gator program that heretofore had totally sucked for the better part of a decade -- like, 0-10-1 sucked -- and made Florida football respectable again.

    So, please give credit where it's properly due.

    But the bottom line is that they also got Gator football up and running again, and off the doormat.

    Unlike Charley Pell, Steve Spurrier did not inherit a moribund Gator program on the skids whose cupboards were bare. Prior to his arrival from Duke, Florida went 45-23-2 during the previous 6 seasons under Galen Hall (1984-88) and interim head coach Gary Darnell (1989), so there was clearly talent already there awaiting him. His first season in 1990, they went 10-2.

    Absent the solid foundation that Pell and Hall provided the Florida football program, how likely do you think there would've been those glory years under Steve Spurrier? For that matter, would Spurrier have even left Duke, where he had been two-time ACC Coach of the Year and had led the Blue Devils to a share of the conference co-championship?

    I believe a lot of people tend to forget how mediocre Florida football really was prior to Charley Pell and Galen Hall. They did nothing that other SEC coaches like Paul "Bear" Bryant and Gene Stallings were't doing. They just happened to get caught.
