Did the Patriots give the lamest (5.00 / 1) (#12)
by Anne on Thu Sep 15, 2011 at 02:58:41 PM EST
response ever to this from Tom Brady?

...the New England Patriots quarterback gave an impressive audition Wednesday when a reporter asked him during a locker room chat if he had a message to fans coming to Sunday's home opener in Foxborough, Mass., against the San Diego Chargers.

"Start drinking early," Brady said. "Get nice and rowdy. It's a 4:15 game. They have a lot of time to get lubed up and come out here and cheer for their home team."

    The Pats' response?

CBS News station WBZ-TV in Boston reports that the front office issued a toned-down clarification of Brady's remarks later Wednesday.

"Stay hydrated," Brady said through a team spokesman. "Drink a lot of water, be loud, drink responsibly."

Yeah, I'm sure that's what Brady really meant...

The better response would have been, "Okay, it was a dumb thing to say, but, come on, he was just kidding around with reporters; Tom would never seriously suggest fans should come to the game drunk."

[Note to self: don't contact the Patriots if looking for someone good at spin control.]

Being almost a one-party city also favors incumbency. As a lifelong Democrat, I hesitate saying it, but we need some Republicans or Greens or other parties in on council to produce fresh thinking to address the city's problems.

Democratic incumbents should be shaking in their boots right now.  They might end up wishing they had been primaried.

And talking about this dialogue concerning Atrios that started years ago now.  He and his blog are popular because he was first, we all go there out of habit and he provides no content.  It is true that Atrios puts up the headlines and makes his comment or two.  And some people call that no content and I call it being some sort of affective blogger that keeps me coming back and coming back and coming back.  I don't comment, but who doesn't read Atrios?

The other thing that I was told was that he was just milking his blog for the last dime he could get out of it, and that he doesn't put any real work into it.  I think he has more cows to milk though now, like his one cow that he neglected of course snuck out and had a night on the town and then had a baby or something, and then that wild neglected youngster cow got out and had a wild night and had baby, and he has almost half of a herd now :)  When will that damned worthless blog just finally die?

Seeing as how University of Georgia has the second most profitable football team in all of college sports, I don't think you'd need to work for cheap! And yes, Georgia is 0-2 coming off a pretty miserable season. But they had Boise State and South Carolina as their first two games this year! If they lose to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers then maybe it's time to ditch Richt.

But I'll tell you, my UGA team would beat Boise State. No question. Either that, or they'd run so many stadiums I'd use the light bill budget in a week.

I'd make up for it by not washing their practice uniforms, etc., and no hot water during the week. there are ways to motivate, since people wouldn't allow me to hit them, lol! How about 6 hours of up-downs?

    Close call Tuesday (5.00 / 4) (#34)
by ScottW714 on Thu Sep 15, 2011 at 04:24:57 PM EST
Fire broke out about 3 miles away from where I stay.  The wind was blowing it away, but it's fricken damn scary driving home and seeing a big dark area in the direction you call home.  So all night we waited to see if the sea breeze was going to reverse the winds, freaky.

The George Bush Park (senior) lost 1500 acres to fire.  Sucks, the park is huge and has all kinds of activities going on, including the Millie Bush Bark Park where I take my dog regularly.

The city is on edge, more on edge would be more accurate.  The park is surrounded entirely by dense housing and had it been a normal park, and not a reservoir, it would have probably burned through many homes.

It's a reservoir for when we get out normal rains this time of year, so there is a huge embankment around which allowed firefights to keep in contained.  But it's the lowest land in the city and dry as a bone.  3 times it has re-lit since Tuesday.  They think a cig butt was the culprit.  You think smokers were hated before...

We have some 650 parks and now they are getting a band of volunteers going through and raking up leaves, pine needles, and sticks.

I am really worried the city could get a serious fire.  We have a lot of green space and because of the drought, it's highly flammable brown space.  Big beautiful trees are dead everywhere, sad.

Maybe now might be a good time to re-hash CO2 emissions, how many disasters this year and counting...

We talk about the profile and look of courage, and JFK even authored his famous evaluation of "Profiles in Courage."  Watching PBS recap the bravery leading to this Marine's Medal of Honor recognition today, my husband & I fell silent. How a singular soldier places so many before himself, saves so many lives in Afghanistan with the expectation of loss of his own & in furtherance of a common purpose is a matter not learned by rote nor in books.  What a stupendous effort on his part...and, more wondrous, what humility he evidences in the face of it all. How will his life unfold, I wonder....

that "Chicago politics" were about left-wing ideology?  Not those of us who grew up in the area.  "Chicago politics" was about power, and staying in power, no matter what it took.  And the University of Chicago was the birthplace of the Milton Friedman's "Chicago school of economics" free market, monetarist economic ideology.

New York City gets the honor.  Citi was originally City Bank of New York in the early 1800's.  Of course, now Citigroup is a sprawling conglomeration of many banks and financial corporations.  But you can blame New York and the early Nineteenth Century.

LSU is going to win by double digits. Mississippi State couldn't even beat Auburn (or lose by 4 to them, for that matter). The Bulldogs' passing game isn't good enough to make up for the fact that they will have no effective running game to speak of. Also, a tiger could beat a bulldog in a fight (this strategy worked in predicting the LSU-Oregon game). Can you explain your reasoning?

I've heard rumors that LSU staff sneak into stadiums the night before and spray lithium on the field so that when Les eats the grass he get a dose.

I was wondering what if a team wanted him that retired the number 85, that idiotic move could have cost him a nice little chunk of change.

Or he could change his name to Ochoidiota, far more accurate then eight five.

I read that that series was very faithful to the original stories. There are some interesting value judgments contained in some of the episodes.

Indiana? My sister's housecleaner was here today, and she is being forced out of the house she is buyinng. IANAL, but I don't think what is happening is legal. She's a very hardworking single mother with two kids and a deadbeat divorced dad.

But:  She could look for a local pro bono Legal Aid Society like one in my city, bless them, and/or look to a local campus with a law school for such a group.  A lot of campuses have Tenants' Rights Organizations and also offer advice on other issues.

    I like it.  FIF.

Obama will need to do more than just deliver a spirited stump speech, especially if he's out there having to talk about and defend a decision to chip away at Medicare.

Carville is always is good for colorfully getting down to the essence of the problem.

But seriously, is there any other blogger out there who people attempt to document and define the history of like they do Armando?  There is Armando 1.5 through 3, there is caterpillar to butterfly via Jeralyn Armando, and there is alter ego BTD?  I didn't even know it was an alter ego.  People are transfixed.  I hope he doesn't go on Survivor next because the money offered is just too much to turn down.  That would be too much, I just couldn't do it :)
